Mohammed Ali Samman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mohammed Ali Samman is the person who discovered the Gnostic Gospels of the Nag Hammadi library in December 1945[1]. While digging for fertiliser at the base of the Jabal al-Tarif cliff near the town of Hamrah Dawm, Egypt, he unearthed several papyri in a large earthernware vessel. Unaware of how valuable the find was and disappointed that it was not gold, he disregarded them at first. His mother even used some pages to build a fire for tea. Eventually, he gave the treasure to a priest who sent them off to Cairo to be examined[2].
