Mohamed el-Fer

Mohamed el-Fers (Haarlem, The Netherlands 1950) is a Dutch writer, musician and filmmaker.

El-Fers was a musician in the formations Los Compañeros (Latin American), Nass el-Ghorba (Moroccan), Tiq Maya (Moroccan), Medina (pop), Atlal (folkrock). With this last group he scored in in 1982 a number 1 hit in Egypt and Sudan and performed in El Alem Ghani the Egyptian tv-show of Hamdia Hamdi.
El-Fers wrote for the Dutch magazines Hitweek/Aloha, De Groene Amsterdammer, Nieuwe Revu, Algemeen Dagblad, De Staatskrant and the Turkish newspaper Dünya. Together with René Zwaap he founded MokumTV, for years the best watched local show on the Amsterdam A1 television channel.
El-Fers produced in 1996 for Hippo Records two cd's with Leo Fuld, the 'King of Yiddish Music'. He published biograpfies of Jacques Brel, the mystic Mevlana Rumi, Oum Kalsoum and Bob Marley. He wrote a awarded travelguide for Istanbul.
Together with Veyis Güngör El-Fers initiated Turkish Oilwrestling in Europe and the UNESCO Mevlana Year in 2007. See Mevlana800.

For his Mevlanabiography he receved on May 5 2003 during the 3rd international Mevlanacongress of the Selçukuniversity of Konya (Turkey) the Merit of Honour by the Turkish Secretary of State for Religion, Prof. Mehmet Aydin.
