Mohamed Nuur Giriig

Mohamed Nuur Giriig (1935-2002) was one of the best classical singers that Somalia ever had. He was born in 1935 in Berbera to a Makhir Coast family from Las Khorey. In 1954, he joined a group of auditioners, among which he came out the number one to be selected as a member of Oud singers. He had a number of hit songs. Amongst some of his all time classics include, Timahaaga Dheeree, Suleikha, Dayaha I Dhibay Halay, Maahee Khadraay, Boodhari Sidiisii, Wacad, Gamaayeey, Soomar. Most of his songs were in the Golden age of 1960s Somalia. He is a member of the Warsangeli clan.
Mohamed Nuur Giriig died in Hargeisa, on the 17th of January 2002.
