Mogorjelo

Mogorjelo is the name given to the remains of a Roman villa rustica in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located near the present-day city of Čapljina.

The area was first excavated in the early 20th century, with work at the site running from 1899 to 1903.

The first structure built on the site dates to the 1st century, when it served as an agricultural centre. This original building was burnt down in the 3rd century. However, in the 4th century, a new villa was built on the site, this one being the most prominent figure on the current site. Mogorjelo supplied the nearby settlement of Narona, and was probably used in the defence of the region. During the 4th century, the villa was conquered by the Visigoths and once again suffered damage. In the 5th century two basilicas were built using the original villa's walls.

The area is currently protected and is surrounded by a park.
