Mofet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mofet (Hebrew: מופ"ת) is an educational program developed in order to promote academic education in Israel. MoFeT is a Hebrew acronym composed of the initial letters of "Mathematics, Physics, Culture"; the Hebrew word mofet means: "paragon; outstanding exemplar".
The Mofet program is usually offered at middle and high schools, but in 2003 Mofet began to include elementary schools as well. The Mofet program focuses on mathematics, physics, chemistry, English and computers. High school students (Grades 10-12) in Mofet classes are encouraged to take a higher level of matriculation units in these subjects.
Of about 1.5 million Israeli students enrolled for the 2005-2006 school year, about 11,000 students participate in the Mofet program in their schools and about 2500 students participate through extracurricular settings.
