Modes Users Association

The MODES Users Association (MUA) is a non-profit organisation formed in 1996 by users of museums and archives, based in Forman Street in Derby. It owns and develops specialised database software intended to help users catalogue and manage their collections, providing a more flexible and accessible means of storing information about collections than older card index systems. The MODES family of software covers three basic programmes: MODES for Windows (MfW), the newer MODES XML (MXML, currently less widely used than MfW), and Catalist (intended for smaller museum collections, and simpler to use than MODES). The MUA also offer a web hosting service to museums, technical support to users, and training days on their software.
