Modern Life Is War (commonly abbreviated as MLIW) was a Marshalltown, Iowa-based melodic hardcore punk band. They were known for their unique take on the melodic hardcore and post-hardcore sound, usually avoiding standard songs structures and almost entirely abandoning the use of breakdowns. On February 9th, 2007, MLIW announced they had signed with Equal Vision Records and released their record titled Midnight in America on August 21, 2007. Their first 7" was released on Lifeline Records. Their two LPs, My Love. My Way. and Witness, are now available on Deathwish Inc.. Worldwide vinyl for the full length albums as well as the European versions of My Love. My Way. and Witness were released on a Netherlands-based label Reflections Records.

On February 19th 2008, the band announced on their Myspace blog about breaking up and that they will be doing one final tour from March 29th to April 26th. They stated 'I hope we have made some people feel less alone and motivated them to think for themselves, be themselves and take action. Punk rock changed our lives. I hope we contributed something to keep the whole thing going. We are leaving soon, but the future is unwritten...
