Modern Breakthrough
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Modern Break-Through (Danish: Det moderne Gennembrud) is the normal name of the strong movement of naturalism and debating literature of Scandinavia 1870-90 which replaced romanticism.
In Norway, it was represented by names like Henrik Ibsen, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Jonas Lie, Amalie Skram and Alexander Kielland, in Sweden by August Strindberg and partly by Viktor Rydberg and in Denmark by J. P. Jacobsen, Holger Drachmann, Herman Bang and Henrik Pontoppidan. The Danish theorist Georg Brandes is often considered to be the "wire-puller" behind the movement though some of the authors had already begun to write before he was known.
