Model Engineering College (MEC) is a premier institute of technology, located in the city of Kochi, Kerala. The institute was founded in 1989 and was the first of its kind established under the auspices of the Institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD). The college awards Bachelor of Technology(B-Tech) degree upon successful completion of the four year undergraduate course in engineering. It is one among the colleges included in the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program of the World Bank.

Model Engineering College is a technical institute which is affiliated to the All India Council of Technical Education and is located in a 14 acre campus in the city of Kochi. It is located in the suburb of Thrikkakara which is 12km from the city. The college is located close to the technology and industrial campuses of InfoPark, Cochin Special Economic Zone and the KINFRA Export Promotional Industrial Park
The institute has 3 undergraduate academic programs with 10 fully functioning laboratories. The college has nearly 100 faculty, 950 students and approx 50 supporting staff. Residential facility is available through hostels run by the college as well as private institutions,for both men and women.

Model Engineering College was established in 1989 by the Institute of Human Resource and Development (IHRD)to provide quality engineering education in Kerala. The college started functioning in August 1989 with three degree courses in Biomedical, Computer and Electronics Engineering. When it was started Model Engineering College was the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala and was the first college affiliated to CUSAT.
Initially it was established at a campus in Edapally (a suburb of Kochi)and shifted to the present campus at Thrikkakara in September 1994.

The Model Engineering College though situated close to the heart of Kochi, is sufficiently removed from the hustle and bustle to provide a serene environment for higher learning. The college is on a hilltop in Thrikkakara, surrounded by vegetation and greenery providing a panoramic view of the city of Kochi and suburbs. The college is in proximity to institutions of research like Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), industrial centres of Aluva, Kalamassery, Cochin Special Economic Zone - CSEZ and KINFRA Software park Kakkanad, VSNL international gateway.
