Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber

The Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sabre was issued to cavalry just before the start of the Civil War until the end of the Indian wars. It is lighter than the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Sabre that it replaced and was carried not only by cavalry but also by many infantry officers. Famous users include George Armstrong Custer and Jeb Stuart.
This is the sword the cavalry use in Westerns, many being original antiques purchased by the movie industry in the 1920s when surplus Civil War equipment was cheap.
