[edit] Technology

A variety of vehicles, from Smarts to Mercedes transporters are reserved via the Mobility website or the call center. The minimum reservation time is one hour. Thereafter the overall reservation time can be defined in half hour intervals. Cars can be reserved virtually on immediate notice, pending availability.

The reservation details are submitted to the cars on board computer via GSM. A smart card opens the vehicle and unlocks the ignition.

After returning the car to the designated parking space the transaction is concluded via the computer.

The Mobility member is billed for the duration of the usage and for the kilometers used. Prices vary from CHF 2.70 to 4.20 per hour and CHF 0.50 to 0.92 per kilometer (half after 100 kilometers), depending on the vehicles category (May 2008).

[edit] Organization

Mobility is organized as a cooperative. Members can either buy a share of the cooperative for CHF 1'000 (in essence a life time membership), or they can enroll via an annual subscription (currently CHF 250).
