Mobaye is the capital of Basse-Kotto, one of the 14 prefectures of the Central African Republic.
The town lies on the north bank of the Oubangui River. A dam in the town was constructed in the late 1990s. It is also linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo on the south bank by a bridge.
