MOBICON is an annual fan convention held in Mobile, Alabama. Founded in 1998, its membership has steadily grown since its inception. Mobicon is a Multigenre convention with a broad focus on many aspects of fandom. Including science fiction, fantasy, gaming, movies, anime, horror, art, and comics to name a few.

Every year actors, authors, artists and their fans come from all over the world to interact with each other and participate in unique events pertaining to their favorite obsession. A portion of MOBICON's proceeds benefit a charity that is chosen each year by its Board of Directors. This year's charity is the Bay area food bank[1].

The next MOBICON, MOBICON XI, will be held May 16-18th, 2008 At the Ashbury Hotel & Suites[2] in Mobile, AL.

Members of mobicon can participate in many unique fan themed events.

  • Discussion panels
    • Many topics are covered
  • Dealers room
    • Dealers from all over the country come to sell a wide variety of goods.
  • Charity auctions
    • Mobicon is host to three charity auctions with radically different formats
  • Art auction
    • Professional and amateur artists can submit pieces to be sold at auction.
  • Art show
    • Artists from all over the country submit works to be exhibited, and sold for charity, at mobicon.
  • Promotional parties
  • Video rooms
  • Film festival
    • Mobicon has been host to film festivals in the past.
  • Dance
    • Mobicon typically has a dance sponsored by a fan group.
  • Gaming
    • 24 Hour Gaming in the game room. This includes RPGA rounds, Magic qualifiers and other CCGs, board games, tabletop war gaming, and a varied assortment of other games.
  • Costume contests
    • Mobicon has a formal costume contest, with amateur, children, and professional divisions. It is also home to the hilarious 7 minute costume contest.
  • Larps
    • All night World of darkness and other live action games are held during the convention.
  • Con Suite
    • Free snacks and drinks for con members and staff. It also serves as a lounge to get away from the rest of the convention for members, guests, and staff.

[edit] Volunteering

As a not-for profit organization, mobicon is organized and run by volunteers. These volunteers take time off from their regular lives throughout the year to make MOBICON happen. Anyone can volunteer for MOBICON, a volunteer coordinator can usually be found at the convention itself or on the website.

[edit] Not tickets, Memberships

It is a common misconception that those who pay to attend MOBICON receive "tickets" for MOBICON; they actually become "members" of MOBICON. Members are encouraged to attend meetings, join committees and elect committee heads.

MOBICON's Board of Directors choose a charity each year to benefit. Over half of mobicon's proceeds benefit the chosen charity every year. This year they have chosen to continue to support the Bay Area Food bank.[15] Previous Charities include the Make a Wish Foundation.

Per a letter from The Department of Treasury, Mobicon Inc is a Not-For-Profit tax exempt entity under 501(a) and 501(c)(4).
