Moatize

Moatize is a town and district located in Tete Province in Mozambique. It is located near the town of Tete and near the Zambezi River.

In 2006, a Brazilian company gained a concession to build a coal mine at Moatize to export coal via rail either to Nacala or to Beira, both Mozambican ports. Riversdale Mining [1], an Australian company also has coal leases in the area.

To transport coal from Moatize for export through Nacala, 670km of railway has to be upgraded at a cost of $375m. [2]
