Mnant is the debut album of Re:, the moniker of Aden Evens and Ian Ilavsky. Interestingly, Ilavsky helped create the recording label the album was released on. The linguistic and conceptual play at work on this record is especially worthy of note. The band name re:, serving as a prefix, can effectively be plugged into each of the track titles to form a familiar word. (ex. solute + re = resolute) This arrangement allows access to a multiplicity of conceptual domains simultaneously, very much akin to the semantic and cognitive structure of metaphor. The essentially connotative nature of the undefined re: (carrying import in re:alms as disparate as math, politics, and letter writing) permits multiple points of intersection with the individual track titles. In addition, many of the song titles themselves are suspended above the space cleared by their aural/phonetic and visual properties (ex. solute = salute).
