This is part of Wikipedia:Footnote4, a manually numbered footnoting proposal.

I have encased the contents in a span tag, using a class called reference. For all those who don't want references, all that you need to do is add the following to your stylesheet:

.reference {

 display: none ! important;

}

I suggest that this be deprecated and systematically phased out of all mainspace articles. There are less than 200 of them now.--SallyForth123 10:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
