Thanks for uploading Image:P6140018.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Thank you Mlaurenti for starting the exit list on Garden State Parkway. It was a wonderful starting point and contribution. However, it does need some work (such as the US/CR abbreviations that Alansohn fixed, as well as minor factual errors). Thank you for making a productive edit to the exit list. However, I'm curious as to why you decided to change "Township" back to "Twp" in some, but not all, cases. [edit] Route 32 (New Jersey)

The purpose of the infobox is to give a brief overview of the route. Since it ends at the Turnpike overpass, it does technically end at the Turnpike, and including the Turnpike in both the junction list and the eastern terminus is extremely redundant. Tidbits of information such as that it actually ends at the overpass, not the interchange, should be included in the article text, not the infobox. -- NORTH talk 21:59, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I have added a discussion thread at WT:NJSCR to address standards for NJ road infoboxes and invite your participation. Over the past several weeks, we have made tremendous progress in cleaning up the articles for the State highways in New Jersey, especially with the expansion and addition of infoboxes to most of these articles. However, there seems to be a great deal of confusion as to what should be going in these infoboxes. I am creating this thread and inviting those users who have been active participants in editing these pages to come up with a mutually agreeable answer on the issues listed. I will take on the task of moderating this discussion, but I will add my 2 cents on these topics. We can add more questions if needed, but please, be civil. Alansohn 23:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A follow up on the usage of "Toll Gate" and toll plaza

It seems we've decided to use "toll gate" to refer to the toll facilities located at exits rather than on the Parkway itself; however, as a frequent user of the Parkway I would like to note that each and every toll facility on the Parkway identifies itself as a "TOLL PLAZA." In the windows of the booths, there are green signs reading, e.g.:

UNION
TOLL PLAZA

at a mainline plaza or, e.g.


UNION RAMP
TOLL PLAZA

at an exit. Regardless of what the common term for such a facility is, the term on the Parkway is toll plaza. In fact, other than in the New Jersey state driver's manual, which refers to them as "Toll Barriers," I've rarely heard them called anything but plazas on any road in the NY-NJ-CT region. I would change all the "gate"s to "plaza"s myself but I (a) don't feel up to the task at the moment and (b) I'd rather not start a revert war over the Garden State Parkway.--Mjj237 04:30, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Contrary to a foolish statement once made by a foolish New Hampshire governor, there are no "toll gates" on the Garden State Parkway (or anywhere in New Jersey, AFAIK). The Merritt Parkway used to have actual toll gates: gates at the toll barriers that did not raise until the proper toll was paid. But this has never been the case in NJ and "Toll Plaza" is definitely the correct term.

Thank you for clearing that up, Atlant, now it all makes sense. Although, a few of the older toll booths for exact change only have/had gates on them. (I moved out of New Jersey 5 years ago, so I don't know what the current status is.) -- NORTH talk 21:11, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
At Exit 145, the I-280 Exit, there used to be tollgates. I don't think they are there anymore. The baskets don't always work perfectly and there would be tieups and problems.--Wehwalt 16:49, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Exit 8A (aerial NJDOT) copy.jpg and Image:New 8a.jpg say in the corner "(C) NJDEP", and the other maps obviously come from the same source. You cannot upload them (or modified versions) to Wikipedia without NJDEP releasing them under a sufficiently free license. --NE2 14:24, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes; you need to get permission, not only to use on Wikipedia, but to use under a free license. Most governments are not willing to do this; you may be able to generate something free using GIS data like the US Census TIGER/Line data. --NE2 18:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Stop uploading copyrighted images and then falsely claiming that they are in the public domain. If an image has a copyright notice on it, then it is not appropriate for use in Wikipedia. Wikipedia's policy on copyright violations includes the following warning: In extreme cases of contributors continuing to post copyrighted material after appropriate warnings, such users may be blocked from editing to protect the project. Since images created by NJ Gov't are copyrighted, then they CANNOT be uploaded to Wikipedia (even with permission from NJ Gov't). If you can show somewhere public where the government of New Jersey has released these works into the public domain, then they can be uploaded to Wikipedia. If you call someone in the state government who says that you can use the images, that is not sufficient for Wikipedia. That's an interesting statement. Leaving aside the question of why the State of New Jersey copyrights material, I wonder what this means with relation to the NJ Open Public Records Act? Essentially, most material outside the judicial branch of government in NJ that does not have an explicit reason to be confidential, is public. And of course, material has copyright protection even without an explicit copyright notice. Where does this leave us with respect to any state government records? As an aspiring road geek, I have heard the term "Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway", but most people think of it as Interstate 78. Does it make sense to refer to it as "Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway (Interstate 78)" or shouldn't it be "Interstate 78 (Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway)" to reflect the more common name? [edit] Re: CR 520 / Shore Points

Greetings again. You may remember a few months ago that when you added the Shore Points note to Exit 8A on the exit list on New Jersey Turnpike, I reverted it off because I was thinking of a different route. When you explained what you were thinking (612 to 520), I allowed it to stay. But the problem with this is that it's all original research. Let me explain...

When you made this edit, I looked it up on Google Maps, and a number of other trip planning sites. The shortest route from the Exit 8A ramp to Sea Bright (the end of 520) is not 520 all the way -- you take 18 to 36. Therefore, all these edits you've made saying that CR 520 serves as the connector from the Turnpike to Shore Points is incorrect. It's barely even a direct route, with a number of turns near downtown Red Bank and Rumson.

So then let's go all the way back to the Turnpike edit that sort of started all this. In order for someone to use Exit 8A for "Shore Points" -- whether they take 520 all the way or not, they would have had to get on the Turnpike at either Exit 9 (or further north) or Exit 8 (or further south). But if you do a search for New Brunswick (Exit 9) to Sea Bright, it has you taking the Turnpike to Exit 10 to the Parkway south to Exit 109. If you do a search for Hightstown (Exit 8) to Sea Bright, it has you taking NJ 33 to CR 537 to NJ 18 to NJ 36]. The simple fact is that Exit 8A is not used to access Shore Points, and that CR 520 is not a "connector" between the Turnpike in Jamesburg and the Parkway in Middletown. -- NORTH talk 23:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

A question... I would like to upload an image for Route 92, created by the Army Corps. According to their website ([1]), it says that information is "considered public information and may be distributed or copied." Is this adequate enough to upload to Wiki? Mlaurenti 0:38, 5 Febuary 2007.

Please add any questions for me to my talk page - you've been adding these to an archive page instead. THe answer to the first question is yes, unless their copyright release statement prohibits it. I would tag it as released by the author into the public domain, and then add a note to the image's talk page identifying the source image and explaining what you did to alter it. I also live in Middlesex County. I'm curious as to where you (Mlaurenti, not Mitch) got information about the Milltown area development going around in Monroe Township or whatever it was. (I'm more familiar with: Jamesburg, Helmetta, Spotswood, the Brunswicks, Rossmoor and Concordia, and some parts of northern Monroe Township.) — Rickyrab | Talk 12:09, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
I admit to not being familiar with the name "Millstone Preserve", although I could probably tell you where the "Hills of Matchaponix" are (somewhere near Texas Road, I think), and could recall that there was a "stone museum" within a short drive from there (I'll have to go find it, but I was there as a kid and there were signs pointing to it.) I also know that there are at least two synagogues in Monroe Township (one's in the Concordia shopping center and another one is called the "Monroe Township Jewish Center - Congregation Etz Chaim"), and I think Rossmoor may have a congregation and Chabad-Lubavich might have an outlet somewhere. I could also tell you that Mill Lake School is not the original school by that name. (It was torn down and replaced by a school next to its original site, not too far from what was the old school's playground.)   • Many articles are starting to reach Start and B-class.
  • A to-do list has been posted on the project page, with a more detailed version at WT:NJSCR#To-do list. The simple version:
    • Ensure that all freeway exit lists are up to exit list guide standards.
    • Make sure all infoboxes have the new maint= parameter.
    • Make sure the straight line diagram is properly referenced in the infobox.
    • Add a major intersections table to each article.
