Template talk:Ml

Multiple Links

This template produces a link in internal link style and also a "hidden external link", to allow it to be found by Linksearchhttp://en.wikipedia.org../../../../articles/l/i/n/Help%7ELinksearch_6505.html, which, unlike Special:Whatlinksherehttp://en.wikipedia.org../../../../articles/w/h/a/Special%7EWhatlinkshere_6633.html, can restrict the list of source pages to those linking to a specific section of the target page. Therefore it is especially useful for linking to a section or other anchor.

Usage:

  • {{ ml | target_page | anchor_name | optional_label }}

In most cases the anchor used is the automatically created one at the top of a section, with a name equal to that of the section. Do not put "#" at the start of the anchor name.

Another advantage of Linksearch (and hence of using this template) is that it can find links to all pages with a given first part, e.g. Linksearch with as target the pages starting with "April 200"

[edit] Template:h:ml

Template:h:ml (backlinks, edit) redirects to Template:ml (backlinks, edit). For the prefix "H:", see m:Help:MediaWiki help policy#Templateshttp://meta.wikimedia.org../../../../articles/m/e/d/Help%7EMediaWiki_help_policy_7efa.html#Templates; it is used on help pages for compatibilty across sites without name conflicts; on other pages it is not needed.

[edit] Edit summary

A disadvantage of using {{ml|a|b|c}} also in the edit summary, instead of [[a#b|c]], is that it does not give a link there.

[edit] Old version

It would have been polite to notify me when the old Template:Ml, which I started, was overwritten without any apparent discussion. Superm401 - Talk 20:22, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
