The reason why I merged the template is that there are more than one templates/userboxes saying the same exact thing. It was not about copyright this time, is was redundancy. While the copyright issue will probably head over to the next template, but can we please merge so that we can only have one of these userboxes, please. Zach (Smack Back) Fair use policy 09:49, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, of course, I know. I wasn't trying to unmerge them. I only pasted the other version over this one, since I thought the other one was better, nothing else. 's that okay? —Nightstallion (?) 10:28, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
How about this: before I merge, you can copy this layout onto the template I am merging to, but revert to the previous design, so at least we have something in the history. Once that is done, I will merge. Deal? Zach (Smack Back) Fair use policy 10:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm afraid I seem to be somewhat slow on the uptake today... What exactly is the problem? I'm happy with the situation as is, namely with {{User OS:Mac OS X}} being the only Mac OS X template, the earlier version being in its page history, and the current version looking exactly like {{User osx}} (when it still existed)... What's the problem? Sorry if I'm being slow, must've had too little sleep... —Nightstallion (?) 10:42, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Forget it, I did it already. Zach (Smack Back) Fair use policy 19:22, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] X? OS X? osx? Mac OS X? What do you think?

Unless there's a change in policy, we're probably not going to be able to use an image for this template. So, what do you think would be good for the text? –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 03:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

  • My own 2¢: Just "X" has been proposed, but I don't like it. There are so many user boxes covering all kinds of topics that an "X" could mean just about anything. Yes, the right field specifies it's for Mac OS X, but I still think it fails the clarity test. "Mac OS X" is probably too long, but "osx" and "OS X" fit and aren't ambiguous, either. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 03:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

To be clear, we can't use images marked as fair use in user boxes. This is spelled out on list item #9 of Wikipedia:Fair_use_criteria. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 17:33, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Would it be okay to change the lisence to a cover since that image is the same one used on the cover of the OS X box? Jtrost 18:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure. Apple is possessive of its brand, so I can't see it releasing this to the GFDL. I don't know much about copyright and images, though. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 00:01, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Does anyone know if it would be alright for someone to make a logo similar to current Apple one, a previous Apple one (such as the rainbow striped apple), or perhaps even the Finder icon? That way it could be used in a userbox, right? BadCRC 04:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
why not use this one: commons:Image:Logo All About Apple.jpg

[edit] Improvements

I hope you'll forgive the change I made. While I think what I did is nice, I'm of two minds about the border colour and I'd love to see something with more of an aqua effect. I didn't like the original greyness... seemed more befitting a Windows NT userbox. Thoughts? Joestella 20:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps a Garamond Condensed W, rendered in aqua style? Joestella 20:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Maybe something similar to what there is now, but in a blue colour; that way it will be more aqua-like. JR98664 03:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree that blue would be much better. The green is very un-Apple. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:30, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

The green matches the iPod shuffle and AirPort packaging. For blue to work, I think it would need to be done aqua like, so it looks similar to a lozenge. Anyone game to give that a go? Joestella 08:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

How's this..? I think the concept is sound, but my execution of the whole aqua thing was a bit rusty. (Solid green is easier to do.) Anyone game to try for an improvement? Apple's corporate font is Myriad Pro Bold. Joestella 20:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
That looks good to me. We don't want to make it too close to the actual logos or it will violate trademark law. I think this is close enough for it to work well for this purpose. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:31, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, I've been unilateral enough already... I'll leave it to others to make changes to the template. Joestella 21:08, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
