The Philippine Collegiate Championship is the upcoming national collegiate basketball championship tournament in the Philippines. It is sanctioned by the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the county's national basketball federation. It's format is similar to the one used in the United States' NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, with 250 teams coming from nine different regional areas nationwide. The champion of this tournament will represent the Philippines in the Universiade (World University Games) basketball tournament.[1]
[edit] Season format
The tournament is divided into four levels: Level 1 will have over 250 collegiate teams competing in their respective "mother leagues" (such as the UAAP, NCAA etc.) to determine the top four teams of each of the nine designated regional areas. A total of 36 teams will go on to level 2 to determine the Regional Champions, who, in turn, will go directly to the final level. The other top teams in the regionals will go on to level 3, which is the Zonal Championship (4 zones). The top two teams from each of the four zones will join eight seeded teams in the final level, the "Sweet 16" challenge, a one-game knockout tournament that will determine the champion.
