[edit] Annie Mae Leonard Mitcham

A tag has been placed on Annie Mae Leonard Mitcham, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calton | Talk 01:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

There are plenty of non-notable things on Wikipedia. It's a shame. Hopefully we'll spot them all eventually. But their existence is not an excuse for keeping other non-notable things - "two rights don't make a wrong".
If there are many independent non-trivial sources that discuss Mrs Mitcham, could you provide the details of some? --Robdurbar 20:19, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
Well I saw one article there, which is a start. I'm not sure who it is or what sort of article it is. But that is only a start. If you must recreate an article about her:
  • Don't include the content about how many great-children she has and their bachelor degrees. Its not interesting to anyone and is unencylopedic
  • Use any sources you have to back up any statements that explain what she has done or what makes her interesting
  • Bare in mind that all this may still not guarentee that others will decide she is notable. I'm still not convinced that she is.
  • Don't keep reposting articles on her if one gets rejected again. This will only make people less likely to accept an article on her
  • Any superlatives or opinions - justify them!
Hope that helps. I don't see how she is notable, in all honesty. I think that the large number of deletions of articles should show this to you. She is a good person, I'm sure, but that's not enough. Robdurbar 10:30, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. The link to an extract you provided on my talkpage effectively says no more than "she was a very good person who had a lot of children and worked very hard", none of which is in dispute, but none of which in itself is notable; very many people are good people, have many children and work very hard, sometimes iin complete obscurity. Any more that the article says has to be purchased, according to the website. So, as Robdurbar says above, can you provide non-trivial sources that the subject of this article is notable? Tonywalton  | Talk 12:54, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
OK, I'll put it to you simply: You need to prove that Annie has done/did something that was notable - maked her unusual - that can be proven with verifiable sources. More specifically, if she falls under one of the categories at Wikipedia:Notability (people), she'll definately get in.
But here's a tip for you. There is no secret way of writing an article or presenting people that makes someone appear more notable. If they are, then it will probably appear fairly obvious as to what it is they have done. I can't help you any more than I already have. --Robdurbar 23:44, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Well that's a source that proves many of the claims made in the article. But I still don't see how any of this makes her patiuclarly notable. --Robdurbar 13:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Please stop reposting the above three-times deleted page without addressing the concerns of why it was deleted. If you persist your ability to edit Wikipedia may be removed. Thank you. Akihabara 14:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

You state that the subject of the article is "Annie Mae Mitcham is very well known Throughout Central GA as an educator for the under privileged".(Presumably by "GA" you mean Georgia (U.S. state). If you can cite reliable sources that say this it might be appropriate to reinstate the article, however please see these guidelines on notability and, given the similarity between the last name of the subject and your username, also see this regarding articles about family members. A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Samaria (Mitcham) Bailey, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). [edit] Samaria (Mitcham) Bailey

I'm not sure this project needs an article on the subject, but I think there is notability asserted (thus no speedy deletion) and that the subject is such that a wider group of editors need to weigh in (thus no prod). I imagine that this will be taken to the articles for deletion process, so now is time for sources and any additional notability claims to be added to the article.
