Mithridates aka 데이빛

This is where I plan to be in thirty years (no I'm not joking).

Sysop on the Ido Wikipedia and sysop and bureaucrat on the Galbijim Wiki (more below). I now do most of my writing and translation here; I also have a Cyworld page, all in Korean, and I also run a site called Idistaro.com devoted to the language Ido - any content in Ido, or in natural languages on the subject of Ido is acceptable.

Another IAL I like is Lingua Franca Nova: we have a wiki of our own here that is currently preparing for a Wikipedia application.

[edit] Galbijim wiki

A project started by some people I know here in Korea that I am contributing to on the wiki side - it's a wiki for everything an expat in South Korea would need to know. The content overlaps what you'll find here from time to time (such as city articles and whatnot) but in the same manner as Memory Alpha and Wookieepedia the Galbijim Wiki is much more specific in the subject it is devoted to, such as:

List of movie theatres that do not show credits - I started to want to write this list when I was living in Sanbon, just south of Seoul, and after The Passion of the Christ no less, the owner of the theatre decides to shut the whole movie theatre down within a minute after the credits start to roll. In my world that would be a felony. So if you are in Korea and thinking of going to Sanbon Cinema, do not. Go to Cinema 7 instead. It's closer to the station anyway.

As of May 2007, our site has published one book.

[edit] Latino sine Flexione

Having taken a second look at this language, I find I prefer it to Interlingua and thus have decided to start working on the page, which as of May 2007 is extremely lacking in detail. Not sure if I intend to make it a FA, but I'll add as much as possible to the page and see what happens after that. Here's the op of a post I wrote on Auxlang on why I think I prefer it

I've been giving the matter a bit of thought recently, and I think I prefer Latino sine Flexione to the other two for a number of good reasons. Here they are in no particular order:
-LsF doesn't have articles. I've noticed in practical use of IALs people from different countries tend to use them in different ways, and in addition to all the languages in the world that don't use them it's probably better to leave them out. Often people from a romance background will use the definite article way too much, some germanic people will leave them out, etc.
-Stress is regular, second syllable from the last. Interlingua has an irregular stress (unwritten) and Interlingue has an irregular stress too (written).
-Basing most of the core vocabulary on a single language is a good thing, I think, even moreso if the language isn't used much anymore, and even better if it happens to be similar to living languages of today. People have a tendency to try to treat Interlingua as they would their own mother tongue, and you often see articles on the Wikipedia there that pretty much just look like modified Spanish or Italian. There seems to be a bit of criticism of so-called 'dead latinisms' but I think they're actually a good thing to have in light of this. A prime vista recognizability is good, but a bit overrated in my opinion. A good amount of it is fine, striving for 100% a prima vista comprehension is a bit of an endless quest.
-Plurals don't have to be indicated if not necessary, nor does the past or future tense. A lot of people here don't like Euroclones for not having this, but LsF does.
-Latin is cool. Plus, as one site stated, you can write anything you want with little more than a knowledge of the rules and a Latin dictionary: "Si genitivo termina in -ae, -i, -is, -us, -ei; thema (ablativo) termina in -a, -o, -e, -u, -e."
So it looks like all Interlingua has going for it compared to LsF is some more recognizability (well, and the existing community of course).

[edit] Colonization of Venus and Atmosphere of Venus

After reading a paper by Geoffrey A. Landis on the concept (located here as a pdf) on the Colonization of Venus I've decided that this is what we should be putting most of our efforts towards instead of Mars. You can't beat one bar of pressure and a temperature of only about 50C that you get in the cloudtops of the planet. Think Cloud City in Star Wars. I think it's time that this be made a featured article so I'll be working on that page quite a bit in the near future. Feel free to help out if you can.

Note from Sept. 4 2006: Atmosphere of Venus is an article I created that was put on the did you know section for half a day in August. Since there's waaay more content for the atmosphere of the planet than for theoretical colonization, I've decided that this is the better article to try to make into a FA. Over the past few weeks I also translated it into Korean and Japanese and it was featured on their did you know...section too. Personally I'd rather see the colonization of Venus article on the front page, but I don't think that's possible for the time being.

[edit] Supporting the Ido language movement

What if you want to support the Ido language movement but aren't sure what to do, and don't know the language that well? Here are some easy ways:

  • The easiest way is to add words to Wiktionary, either in the Ido Wiktionary (now at 115,000 words), or by adding Ido words to the translation section in your Wiktionary.
  • If you see an article of ours with a large number of interwiki links, chances are we've only added the interwiki links to the English and perhaps French and German Wikipedias. Feel free to add Ido interwiki links to the other languages.
  • Put this template on your user page: {{User_io-0}}

Here's an example of what Ido sounds like sung. This is not me. I play the drums. I don't sing. Yet.

Listen

Me vidis ofte en sonj' des'quieta
Ke trans rivero distant'
Super la tekti, sub la nubeti
La griza kavalo esis lente flugant'.
En la cielo, super la tekti
La griza kavalo esis lente flugant'.
On audas nul' soni dum lua kurado,
Ritmoze fluktuadas pektor'.
Levint' maxim alte lu des'aparadas.
Me esis vekant' e ne povis dormor.
Me rimemoras ke sempre plu alte
La kaval' es levinta... Me ne povas dormor.
"Quon signifikas la sonjo, tu dicez",
Me pregis la ciganin'.
"Nu, mea kara, tu esos felica,
Tun prizas fortuno", respondis l'oldin'.
"Yes-yes, mea ora, tu esos felica,
Por la fortuno tu es preferind'".
Ma regretinde me ja ne vidas
La griza kaval' en ciel':
Sive pavoras feliceso timida
siv' men des'prizeskis la fortuno rebel'.
La feliceson flugant' me timigas,
Me des'prizesis dal fortuno rebel'.
