[edit] Longest run?

At well over 1,000 episodes, I am wondering if this series is a contender for longest-running TV series of all time anywhere. I know of no other series that has been running this long, and I remember liking it when I lived in Japan a few years ago. Certainly there is no TV series in the United States that can boast 37 seasons and counting. Does anyone know if Mito Komon's claim to Longest TV Series Ever can be verified? The nonfiction 60 Minutes started earlier. I don't know how many times it has been broadcast. Among jidaigeki, Mito Kōmon outlasted Abarenbo Shogun by quite a margin. Jidaigeki Channel says Zenigata Heiji lasted 888 episodes. It's not clear if that includes recent revivals or not. For Oedo Sosamo it gives 715 episodes. So within the genre Mito Kōmon is a contender... but I may be missing some other series. Outside of Japan, of course, it's a wide world.
