Mitsukake (軫宿) is a character in the manga and anime series Fushigi Yūgi.

The healer of Suzaku's warriors. He is soft-spoken and one of the most serious of the Suzaku Seven. The son of a country doctor, he put his natural talents to work and often would help his father with his rounds. However after the death of Shōka, the daughter of the local nobleman and with whom he was in love, Mitsukake gave up medicine and devoted all of his time and energy into finding a miracle herb that could cure any illness. It was during this reclusive stage that Miaka and the others found him, and with a little persuasion managed to get him to join them. During the battle between Kōnan and Kutō, he is severely wounded by Nakago protecting Tasuki and Chichiri, and later gives up all his strength to heal a baby. His cat Tama is the unofficial mascot of the Suzaku Seven, and after Mitsukake's death, becomes Chichiri's pet.

[edit] Personality

He is silent, and because he is expressionless most of the time, he's thought to be aloof. But he is actually just shy and does not know how to be more outgoing. He is very kind to the weak, as well as to animals, the elderly, kids, and of course the sick. He is utterly devoted to healing. A calm, kind man. Deep inside he still cherishes the memory of the late Shōka. He dies by exhausting all his energy to save the life of a child who, it later is revealed, is the reincarnation of his beloved Shōka. A side-effect of this is the revival of the Kōnan and Kutō soldiers that had been wounded during battle.

In Fushigi Yūgi Eikōuden, he is revived as a young boy who isn't convinced that he is Mitsukake, and would rather stay to protect a young girl named Shōka, the very one he sacricrificed his life to save.
