Mitford Castle

Mitford Castle is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building at Mitford, Northumberland.
The Norman motte and bailey castle stands on a small prominence above the River Wansbeck and presents the ruinous remains of an unusual pentagonal keep. The castle was dismantled in about 1318 and was probably never rebuilt.
The castle is officially on the Buildings at Risk Register although the owner Mr Bruce Shepherd is believed to have ambitions for its restoration.
