The Mitchell Madison Group is a global management consulting firm that combines broad strategic capabilities with deep functional skills to deliver value to their clients. It is a business consulting firm specializing in cost cutting and savings. It has offices in New York City, Los Angeles, London, and Manila. Its main competitors are McKinsey & Company and A.T. Kearney.
Mitchell Madison Group started in 1994 by a group of McKinsey veterans, headed by Tom Steiner, looking to revamp the entire industry. The Mitchell Madison Group experienced radical growth, and by the late 90's, the firm had expanded to include almost a thousand employees in eleven offices on four continents. However, the expansive growth led to a financial crunch, eventually creating a board member revolt led by founding partner William Riordan, and detailed by three in depth Consulting Magazine articles 1, 2, 3.
Weakened by explosive growth, the firm was acquired by USWeb/CKS in 2000 for more than 300 million US dollars. USWeb/CKS then merged with Whittman-Hart to form marchFIRST the following year, in a move to consolidate IT consulting[1]. marchFIRST collapsed into bankruptcy in 2001.
In 2002, a group of the original founders bought the rights to the name and re-started the firm. Since the relaunch, the firm has grown to approximately 130 professionals across 6 worldwide offices (Headquarters in NYC). Currently, the firm focuses on performance improvement (including sourcing, outsourcing and process re-engineering) as well as overall corporate strategy projects.
