This is a list of Wikipedians who are no longer an integral part of our community. Also see Wikipedia:List of administrators/Inactive.

[edit] Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Don't add users with fewer than about 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, do not add anonymous users identified by their IP address (they could have created an account and still be contributing, or they might have a roaming IP address) and do not add yourself.

  • People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain from editing for at least two weeks are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
  • Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
  • In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
  • Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list.
  • Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
  • If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit.
  • Wikipedians who no longer edit due to confirmed death should instead be added to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians.

This page was mentioned in an Economist article on March 6 2008: "Many who are excited about contributing to the site end up on the “Missing Wikipedians” page: a constantly updated list of those who have decided to stop contributing. It serves as a reminder that frustration at having work removed prompts many people to abandon the project. "

  • Oden (talk contribs count) - Last edit was January 2007, placing a retirement tag on his userpage. Left due to his involvement in the heated WP:NFCC debates, resulting AN complaints about wikistalking, incivility on the part of others, etc.
  • Oldwindybear (talk contribs count) - Former administrator. Amidst allegations of sockpuppetry, Oldwindybear requested his userpage deleted and blanked his talkpage. Last edit July 25, 2007.
  • OmegaWikipedia (talk contribs count) - Last edit November 27, 2005.
  • Omicronpersei8 (talk contribs count) - Last edit 1 December 2006, made a few on the 9th, placing a "Former Wikipedians" template on his user page with "Goodbye" as the edit summary. A dedicated vandalfighter with over 50,000 edits.
His vandal fighting skills were surpassed only by the legendary Curps. We can only hope he will return one day. --Captain Wikify Argh! 00:20, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Omniplex (talk contribs count) - Last edit 10 July 2006, blanked user page; was also very active on Meta from Mar - Jul 2006.
  • OneGuy (talk contribs count) - last edit was on 9 December 2006.
  • Optim (talk contribs count): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. • Oven_Fresh (talk contribs count) - last edit 17 Aug 2005. His account made edits on June 4, 2006.
