This is a list of Wikipedians who are no longer an integral part of our community. Also see Wikipedia:List of administrators/Inactive.

[edit] Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Don't add users with fewer than about 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, do not add anonymous users identified by their IP address (they could have created an account and still be contributing, or they might have a roaming IP address) and do not add yourself.

People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain from editing for at least two weeks are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list.
Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit.
Wikipedians who no longer edit due to confirmed death should instead be added to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians.

This page was mentioned in an Economist article on March 6 2008: "Many who are excited about contributing to the site end up on the “Missing Wikipedians” page: a constantly updated list of those who have decided to stop contributing. It serves as a reminder that frustration at having work removed prompts many people to abandon the project. "

Apankrat (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit: 3 January 2008 - left a goodbye message.
Apollomelos (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit: 19 August 2005 - User & user talk pages were deleted 21 May 2005 by request, citing the reason "I am leaving the project because I no longer have the time to spare contributing to often controversial topics in which I must spend 75% of my time explaining the information to users who did not even bother to read up on the topics[...]". Banes (talk • contribs • count) - On August 29, 2006 he left a retirement message on his userpage, saying he would be busy for the next few months, though he continued editing sporadically. Last edit November 17, 2006.
Bagpuss (talk • contribs • count) - One of the oldest Wikipedians. First edit was January 5, 2003. Last edit was May 7, 2003. Came back once in 2005, and again in April 2006.
Basara-kun (talk • contribs • count) - Left on 19/07/2007 after uploading 50+ unsourced images. "Enough. My contribuitions are ignored, my images are removed from the articles and in general, my editions aren't "encyclopedic"."
Bcrowell (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit 13 March 2006. "Wikipedia was fun for a few years, but at this point I think it's entered a stage where it's just not fun anymore.... I've intentionally munged my password, so I can no longer log in." Apparently reappeared briefly as Bcrowell2 (talk • contribs • count).

BostonMA (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit July 17, 2007; stopped editing proflicially in February, a month after a failed RfA. 6000+ edits. No reason given.
Brat32 (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit August 24, 2006; blanked her/his userpage and replaced it with the message "I'm gone."
Britney Spears (talk • contribs • count), stopped editing in July 2005, made two edits in January 2006.

I prefered Wikipedia more when it was smaller and I felt part of a small community, now Wikipedia has got bigger (which is great) but I dont feel as useful, or as important, I just feel like part of a mob." Vancouverguy was previously absent from Wikipedia in February 2004. He edited a bit in October 2005 and has not posted since. His account was compromised on June 2007 and de-sysoped, see WP:FIRED.

VeryVerily (talk • contribs • count) - Banned at one point in 2004 for edit warring, he returned for a few months in 2005. On December 27, 2005 he started an appeal at requests for arbitration to "clear his name" from his previous block. He has not edited since February 28, 2006.
Vespristiano (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit August 26, 2006 to his sandbox after a four-month Wikibreak.
Vikreykja (talk • contribs • count) - Last edit 29 March 2007. Left no word as to why. Maybe getting his pilot certification has taken up all his time. He edited mostly on San Francisco Giants, Liger and Online poker. He did a lot of the early template work for Major League Baseball templates.
