A wikiproject devoted to simply saying how great some users are, doesn't help the project in any way, it actually does more harm than good as people who aren't chosen to get upset.   • Keep - and urge nominator to contact all the active members of the project as well, as is recommended. It can be and is potentially at times a good way to memorialize editors who have left the project, and in fact that was my primary reason for having joined it in the first place. I very much believe that it is in keeping with the spirit of the encyclopedia to at least remember those who have left. At worst, as there isn't a lot of activity, tag as inactive, but there is no just cause for deletion. John Carter (talk) 19:45, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
It was initially created by a now inactive editor to be a place to record those editors who have made contributions to wikipedia of sufficient magnitude to merit their names receiving a place of honor in the history of wikipedia. However, I acknowledge that it slipped my mind for lack of activity for some time. There is now a proposal on the project's talk page to create a virtual "hall" for retired wikipedians, and a few nominees have been suggested. However, prior to that recent activity of mine, it actually did nothing at all, due to the retirement of its founder and everyone else forgetting about it. If there is any response to the suggestions on the project's talk page, I think it could make at least a mild impact on improving the encyclopedia, or at least ensuring that undeniably significant editors not be forgotten when they retire.
