[edit] Wikipedia:Pit Full of Hungry Crocodiles
Flippant, is not policy or a policy discussion. Although I'm sure it was intended this way, my main objection is that it feels to me like a personal attack. The page says that the following acts will be attempted by 'Foolish children', and then proceeds to link to some good faith AFD nominations of micronation articles made by me. To me it also feels like an attempt at intimidation; should anyone dare to nominate a micronation article for deletion, regardless of it's merits, they will face the lynch mob. Well, the mob may be loud but it seems to be 1 or 2 people at most. I prefer to deal with concensus. There's no concensus that says micronation articles are hallowed ground. Comment - I would suspect you haven't had enough coffee yet today, but that might get misinterpreted as a personal attack, so I won't.
There was no intent in doing done this to cause any sort of negative reaction against any WP editor. This was entirely flippant. I believe humor to be a useful tool in defusing arguments which may become personal, both online and in real life. I created this after a flippant remark from User:Centauri led to a flippant red link response by User:Barno in the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands (second nomination) discussion. I creatd the page he'd redlinked to.
There is no reason for people not to apply usual Wikipedia processes and criteria to Micronation articles. Other than an apparent misunderstanding yesterday about initial motives in the recent spate of Micronation article deletion proposals, which I admit and have admitted and accept responsibility for being snappy, I have no objections at all to people exercising their editorial rights and perogative regarding these articles, any more or less so than any other topic.
There is always a danger in using humor that someone will respond "That's not funny!", which is unfortunate when they take it personally and are serious. That wasn't what I meant, and I apologize for any perceived attack.
There is no reason not to deal with (delete, whatever) the article as flippant. That's exactly what it was. Have at it. Georgewilliamherbert 19:41, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- No you're right about the coffee :) But, I have had a night to think about it. Your reply is appreciated and is quite comforting, thank you. --kingboyk 20:07, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Delete blatant POV pushing intimidation page. JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 20:22, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Userify I found it quite funny. Wikipedia DOES have pits of hungry crocs (and where they are tends to change over time) but it's not, in its current form, suitable for project space. The topic (that there are places that may be less fun than others) seems worthy of a well written, neutral essay, but this article isn't it. Not everything funny is nice or suitable for projectspace. Not sure I'd go so far as to call it intimidation though. ++Lar: t/c 21:25, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Delete Not funny, not worth saving, not useful in project space. Xoloz 23:38, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Userfy or Delete. If this was in Usersapce, I'd vote Keep, but it doesn't belong in project space the way it is now. xaosflux Talk/CVU 00:29, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Userfy or Delete. Fine in userspace, but not really suitable in Wikipedia namespace. Crotalus horridus (TALK • CONTRIBS) 03:27, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- Comment I created {{User crocodile pit}}, a userbox to express the same sentiment.
This user believes that some Wikipedia flame wars are akin to a pit full of hungry crocodiles. |

- Userified - I haven't deleted the original (will allow the poll to conclude and properly execute it with due dishonors), but see User:Georgewilliamherbert/Pit Full of Hungry Crocodiles - Georgewilliamherbert 05:35, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- * Oh, and I like the userbox, and I'm using it now. Thanks, Crotalus. Georgewilliamherbert 05:36, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
