[edit] Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars
This page may of started out with a goal of being "humour" — It is my belief that this "goal" has not been met, there is a notice at the top of the page stating "While this may be a humor page, please use due care in what you write here. Namely, be sure you don't inadvertently make personal attacks or violate other policies." – I do not think that this has ever been obeyed, frankly I am of the belief the whole page brinks on WP:NPA (I my self had to remove one directed at me today.), WP:CIVIL and also violates Wikipedia:Five pillars (specifically pillar #4.) "Act in good faith, never disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point, and assume good faith on the part of others. Be open and welcoming." (per Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point - the point being to illustrate that edit wars do happen) – The fact is we shouldn't be "documenting" edit wars, we know they happen, that is enough from my perspective. - Delete edit wars are bad, and shouldn't be documented. --Majorly (Talk) 19:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep I would prefer that actual diffs be provided to let other people decide for themselves, but personally I have repeatedly almost wet myself laughing out loud at the stuff on this page and would be sad to see it deleted. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 19:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep. If you don't wish your lame edit wars to be documented here, then don't wage lame edit wars. Mockery can be an effective deterrent. TacoDeposit 19:11, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep - as per TacoDeposit above, maybe we can shame people into ending their silly arguments if we highlight them. But we need to expand the page a lot if that's to be successful. Badbilltucker 19:19, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep WP:NPA violations should be removed (though I personally don't consider the instance mentioned in the nomination as constituting a "personal attack"; mentioning warring editors by name should not be done here and mentions should be removed). I also don't see how this goes against WP:POINT. If there were some sort of "lameness" template being pasted on the articles in question, that would be a WP:POINT problem, but to me, merely listing some of the more ridiculous behaviors that have ensued on Wikipedia falls short of violation of WP:POINT. As for WP:CIVIL, I just don't see this as being all that uncivil. I don't think this page will deter anyone, but there is alot of silliness and general ridiculous behavior that happens on Wikipedia and documenting it in the Wikipedia namespace lets editors sit back and have a good laugh at some of the silliness. WP:IAR if you will; just so the Wikipedia community doesn't start taking itself so seriously that it cannot laugh at it's own flaws.--Isotope23 19:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- You are pretty confused if you think this is a personal attack. He said you were edit warring. I don't know if that's true or not, nor do I care, but that is commenting on someone's actions, which is very different from calling someone a ponce or saying their mother is probably a whore. I'll say keep, if only to document how terribly unfunny the average Wikipedian is. Recury 19:41, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep, for the love of God, Keep There's been at least one other attempt to delete this page, and I would quote two other comments from that discussion: "The strongest KEEP I've ever given in my life" and "The lame edit wars page is awesomely useful." While sometimes this page has been used as a venue for personal attacks (where one edit warrer accuses the other of lameness), and I generally don't think it's appropriate to call out users by name, such additions are generally deleted or modified pretty quickly. This page provides an incredibly useful venue for bewildered bystanders to let myopic edit warriors know how ludicrously short-sighted their edit wars are, and how silly and counterproductive they look to anyone with even a little perspective; it also holds up a series of cautionary examples that (hopefully) allows editors to think, before going to war over a misplaced comma or something, "Do I really want to end up on WP:LAME?" Plus, the page is hilarious. Since it's outside the main wikipedia namespace and serves mainly as a repository of wikilore, I see no harm and great use and entertainment value in it. --Jfruh (talk) 19:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
