[edit] Wikipedia:Instant Messaging Wikipedians
This is a bundled nomination of several pages.
- Wikipedia:Instant Messaging Wikipedians (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- Wikipedia is not a site for social networking, which is clearly the purpose of this page (see the mention of a "buddy list"). The corresponding category, Category:Wikipedians by instant messenger, was recently deleted for similar reasons.
- Image:Contact.jpg (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- This image is used only on the above page and was uploaded by a user who has been mostly inactive for 9 months. Its only purpose is to note the user's various e-mail and IM accounts, which can be done without an image.
- Wikipedia:Audioscrobbling Wikipedians (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- This is a list of 5 users that is redundant to/replaced by Category:Wikipedians who use Last.fm.
- Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by interest in sport (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- This list is replaced by Category:Wikipedians interested in sports.
- Wikipedia:Wikipedians by favorite sport (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- This is a slightly more MySpace-ish version of the above. Information about individual users' favourites (foods, sports, colours, and so on) are not appropriate in the project namespace.
- Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by age (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)
- This page was replaced by Category:Wikipedians by year of birth (technically, this isn't yet a soft redirect, so I figured I'd include it in this nomination).

keep Instant messaging list which could be useful for collaborating/knowing who one might be able to get in contact quickly with if something came up. For example, if one is not an admin but needs a time-sensitive admin tool use, one would likely post on ANI and possibly also use this category to find an admin who was online. JoshuaZ 03:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Changing position to delete per Black Falcon's point below. JoshuaZ 13:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)- Only one person on the list mentions that s/he is an admin. In addition, in order for such communication to be effective/possible, the non-admin and contacted admin must have compatible IMs and the admin must have enabled his/her IM. Would it not be far easier to post at ANI, request help via {{helpme}}, or contact someone in Category:Wikipedia administrators. In addition, were one to contact the admin directly, would the talk page not be a more effective/certain venue for communication, especially if the matter was time-sensitive? I'm not trying to bug you to change your recommendation ... well, maybe a little :P ... but just putting forward some ideas. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 03:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Since "List of Wikipedians..." pages are listed here, you may also be interested in the following:
- Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by interest in literature
- Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by martial art
- Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by military branch
- Numerous subpages of Wikipedia:Wikipedians that are not redirects
- Numerous other pages have been merged and redirected by the historical Wikipedia:User categorisation project. Before these get deleted (preferably redirected instead in order to preserve edit histories and to accommodate any incoming links), you may want to make sure that the corresponding category/ies reflect the lists. In some cases lists tell you much more relevant info than categories, though I'm indifferent about whether they're MySpace-y or useful for collaboration at all. –Pomte 01:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Keep The instant messaging one, makes it easy to find ways to communicate with wikipedians off-wiki, which I find easier for discussing things. Delete others. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:56, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- How useful is that list, really? Will it really be useful to check a list of a few hundred Wikipedians (out of tens of thousands), most of whom added themselves to the list in 2003-05 and a significant portion of whom are now inactive, on the off chance that it happens to include the off-wiki contact information of someone you want to contact? Thanks, Black Falcon (Talk) 23:46, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Delete all except the instant messaging one per TheFearow. — Bob • (talk) • 23:06, August 1, 2007 (UTC)
- Delete all including the IM page, and I'm listed on there. If a Wikipedian wants to be contacted by IM, he can list that information on his page. Andre (talk) 01:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Delete all as they can all, in one way or another, be covered more effectively by the categories in place now, or by users simply adding their details to their userpage (as I have). It's just odd to go around adding to your IM people you've never even encountered, and that doesn't spread any love (or whatever the hell the purpose is). It's considered stalking.
