The result of the debate was keep User:Zapptastic/chess and delete the subpages. The old games should be deleted, the top level page is within what users are allowed in their user pages.—Doug Bell talk 20:41, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] User:Zapptastic/chess
The host of these tables has not been seen since November 2006. Moreover, games of any kind are not encouraged on this site. (Also bundled in this debate are these matches.) --Slgrandson (page - messages - contribs) 19:50, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Delete all per WP:USER#What can I not have on my user page?. "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia." –Llama man 00:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)- Keep. This page and others like it cause no harm or distraction to wikipedia or its users. - Kevin (TALK) 03:31, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Weak keep. Editors occasionally take a break. I was away for over 6 months once. Also, an occasional game keeps editors happy and thus more productive. I'd suggest renomination in another few months instead. - Mgm|(talk) 09:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Keep for the above to reasons. I believe the first port of call people should make is to ask themselves what harm is this causing? (very little keeping, potentially harmful if removed). The secondly what good is caused? (potentially much if kept, but little potential for good if removed). Mathmo Talk 12:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Comment, this other MfD has very good closing statement by the admin that I feel applies to this one as well. It is very very long so I won't copy and paste it here rather you can follow the link I provided (summary: "Moreover, there does not appear to be any evidence that User:Guitarmankev1/Chess has "[become] disruptive to the community or... [has gotten] in the way of the task of building an encyclopedia". The question, then, of the exact disposition of User:Guitarmankev1/Chess is not strictly dictated by policy, but is a matter to be decided purely by community consensus. There is clearly no consensus favoring the deletion of this page."). Mathmo Talk 12:57, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Speedy Keep The pages' stated intentions are: "to have a bit of fun by playing a game or more of chess, to get to know you better through discussion while playing, to build connections within Wikipedia's sense of community". Seems a perfectly good use of user space to me. Jerry lavoie 00:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Delete - WP:USER specifically says games aren't acceptible. The user is gone. And the chess championships were deleted for a reason. The reasoning given above could apply to several other userpages and groups that have been deleted, but policy is there for a reason. --ElaragirlTalk|Count 04:09, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Delete Game unrelated to WP. JChap2007 20:26, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Delete WP:USER mentions games as inappropriate. If this user were still active improving the encyclopedia it would be a closer call. EdJohnston 01:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Weak keep. It would be a straight keep if the user were still active. I think we should give him a few more months, if he hasn't came back by then, then he doesn't need this little chess page does he. It doesn't interfere with building an encyclopedia, and having a little fun now and then keeps users at Wikipedia, so they can help with encyclopedia. Not that this guy seems to think that a little fun can keep someone at Wikipedia... Cream147 Shout at me for doing wrong 07:18, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Delete- WP:USER says no, WP:NOT says no (not social networking), and I say no. Jorcoga (Hi!/Review)23:41, Friday, 9 February '07
- Delete Wikipedia is not a social networking site. There is no need for games on Wikipedia. Khatru2 11:23, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
