This has been admited openly to be a way to recruiting preteens. evidence Bad idea. -- Drini 21:02, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Delete - per nom - and participants laissez faire attitude about the dangers confirms that this is a bad idea and worries me --Trödel 21:14, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Delete encouraging younger users to take part in editing wikipedia is a good idea, but sadly the internet is not a safe place for this. Listing all young users is a bad idea and could be used by the wrong people.--Andeh 21:18, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Meh, thanks a lot WikiPedia. Well, I guess the page is screwed. Look, I guess your right. Preteens are smarter than the just too young and don't know enough not to give out personal info. We're pretty capable. I am a preteen, not some exploiting wierdo. Anyway, I guess I was wrong, WikiPedia can hardly treat minors with as much respect. Anyway, I'm thinking of quitting WikiPedia, I thought they would understand. Julz, AKA wizkid357
- Delete. In a perfect world, I'd be fine with this. Unfortunetly we don't live in a perfect world, and I can see how someone could misuse this. This is not meant to accuse anyone involved of wrongdoing here, of course, but I just don't want to take the chance of someone getting hurt. BryanG(talk) 06:45, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Comment This leaves the Wikipedia:Wikipedia Youth Foundation. Is this authorized? Is the fact that its cutoff is 17 instead of 13 enough of a reason to allow it? --M@rēino 17:47, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Reply Frankly that one worries me too - but there is a huge jump in maturity from 10 to 15 or from 12 to 14 even. I think the risks associated with establishing that kind of an identity should be clearly outlined on the project page. --Trödel 18:25, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I added a warning message to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Youth Foundation that should cover the basics. --M@rēino 00:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good succinct summary --Trödel 02:56, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Delete. First of all, Wikipedia is expressly not for children to even use, let along edit. Elementary schools, which (in the USA) go up to about age 12 or 12½, don't allow free acces to the web, but to the extent that they do, I would certainly hope they don't allow access to Wikipedia. This is not a knock on the 'pedia but just a statement that we will and do cover, um, adult subjects. And we don't really want a public and active preteen presence, it would put us under pressure to water down some of our content, maybe. Second of all, there have been known pedophiles edit wikipedia. As a WP:PAW member I don't really want this page around for practical and political reasons. Herostratus 03:07, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
