[edit] User:Urbanrenewal/AlpInvest Partners
Article fails Wikipedia:User_page#Copies_of_other_pages. AlpInvest and AlpInvest Partners. Article was created by an WP:SPA account. Repeated attemps to create the page untill the point of having to protect aginst creation.
Part of a larger spam campaign that is seeding WP with spam articles. Self-promotion and product placement are not the routes to having an encyclopaedia article, this includes the userspace. Wikipedia is NOT a "vehicle for advertising" Hu12 (talk) 20:09, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Note: Draft has been improved and moved to mainspace after unprotecting the name. Please close as "keep (moved to mainspace)" --Enric Naval (talk) 15:03, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Keep (author has added notable sources)
Weak delete (needs more notable sources)DeleteNon-encyclopaedic content that has been removed more than once from mainspace. The page is not a userfication of deleted content for whatever the reason, but a simple re-creation by the user. There are spam and SPA issues. No reliable sources on article.--Enric Naval (talk) 21:00, 27 April 2008 (UTC)- I found some indications that the firm might actually be notable on the investment world: several mentions on Finantial Times.com and one pay-to-view article on Financial News Online another article on Financial News Online another and another, note on International Law Office Bussiness week. I suggest all these sources are added to the article before the AfD closes to re-afirm notability, and that the creator finds mentions on newspapers. --Enric Naval (talk) 22:14, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Keep and let the user find and add references with the goal of creating an article suitable for Wikipedia. Some Wikipedia contributors are particularly interested in trains or Pokemon. Urbanrenewal (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) seems particularly interested in venture capital firms, but that doesn't mean that his or her articles are spam. --Eastmain (talk) 21:32, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Intended this page as a work in progress which is what I thought was the right way to do it while I put in more references. This is my first shot at creating this page along with a number of its competitors Coller Capital (I tried a rewrite of another user's page which was blatant advertising), Lexington Partners and Landmark Partners. I would appreciate it if you would check back shortly as there are a number of good external sources that will be added and I think the pages are all generally fairly balanced. Urbanrenewal (talk) 22:31, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Keep The company certainly appears notable with $45 billion under management. It doesn't seem polite for Hu12 to reach into Urbanrenewal's subpage to attack a work in progress. Hu12 seems to making this into a personal campaign, and I imagine it is discouraging for a new Wikipedian. OptimistBen | talk - contribs 22:52, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Keep If no progress is made on the article after a month or so, that would be another matter--but this is the first day it's been there. I pay tribute to Hu12 in his efforts; perhaps the solution would be for others to help him more so he doesn't have to feel he is the only person guarding the gates. - Keep. This is what userspace is for. If it stays stagnant, then it can be deleted later. --UsaSatsui (talk) 02:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Comment I wrote this page and have made substantial further edits and appreciate everyone's suggestions. I hope everyone will agree that the page is now substantial in content and fairly balanced. I also think given the references to third party articles and other sources this should be considered a notable topic and worth of keeping on the site. Please see my work on similar firms in the same space Coller Capital, Lexington Partners and a work-in-progress User:Urbanrenewal/AlpInvest Partners. i appreciate all of the comments and do not expect to make substantial further additions unless the group thinks that it could still use substantial work. I want to propose putting this page in the main wikipedia and would appreciate feedback on this Urbanrenewal (talk) 03:55, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Question? The space for AlpInvest Partners has been locked to create a new article. In its original incarnation last year, the AlpInvest Partners article was deleted, likely due to a poorly written article and attempts to recreate the page. The original locking admin suggested bringing it to this discussion to unlock that page again and insert this article. Based on the comments, I think most of the concerns are now adressed. How do I go about moving this article to the AlpInvest Partners space?Urbanrenewal (talk) 01:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Served its purpose This page has served its purpose and I have no objection to removing it from my userpage but do not subscribe to having it deleted on the basis proposed by Hu12. Given the healthy debate and the fact that this page is being used as the basis for a main wikipedia page I did not want to delete the page unilaterally. please advise on proper course of action.
