[edit] User:ScottAHudson
I apologize if this isn't the correct place to deal with this; WP:USER is somewhat vague on the subject of taking action. I left a message at User talk:ScottAHudson#Your user page a few days ago, warning this user about his user page. 1812 of this user's 2262 edits since February 1, including 57 of his 60 edits since I raised the issue, have been to his user page.[1] The page's "Favorites" section does not seem particularly related to Wikipedia, listing favorite "Non-Alcoholic Drinks", "Favorite Days of The Week," "Least Favorite Days of The Week," "Favorite Parent," "Favorite Pet," and promising "Favorite Teachers of 10th Grade" to be "coming very soon." For some reason, the page then goes on to copy tables and content from the articles of 16 reality television programs, which contributes greatly to the page's size of 317 kilobytes. The section I find most concerning is the four fantasy reality television programs the user appears to be running on the page. Besides WP:USER's recommendation against "Games, roleplaying sessions, and other things pertaining to 'entertainment' rather than 'writing an encyclopedia,'" as well as the common WP:NOT#MYSPACE concerns, contestant and host descriptions such as "Teachers At White Knoll High" (the user's "Favorite School"), "Middle/High School Friends," and "a out-of-school counselor that I see once a month" seem to indicate that there is the potential for WP:BLP-like issues. - Delete - user has not made any attempts to address the concerns raised, so I'm afraid we must resort to tougher measures. MER-C 06:45, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - I am sorry if you all want to delete the page. Be aware that some of the stuff does not come from articles. Do not delete this page I would love for it to stay because it seems as a good source. If I take out the Favorites section, you will have to promise me that you will keep the page. User:ScottAHudson 9:32, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Keep- I would love to see this page stay. It intrests me to have made it and get the chance to look at the wonderful things that are on this page. I would love to see it stay so I can continue to enjoy it. If it is deleted, the page will be smaller and it will contain stuff that I have seen on DVDs only and broadcasts. Broadcast stuff for summer shows would not be removed. User:ScottAHudson 12:16, 27 May 2007 (UTC)KeepI have removed some of the content that may be improper to the site. I greatly apologize for violating rules. If you keep the page, within two years, the page will be total unviolational to the website of Wikipedia. User:ScottAHudson 3:29, 27 May 2007 (UTC)- I beg of you all!! I would love to this page stay. User:ScottAHudson 8:28, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Delete - Wikipedia is not a Myspace or a blog.--WaltCip 03:50, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Keep- The User obviously worked hard on it, so I would consider keeping it so that the user doesn't have to tire over making a whole page again. I'm sorry, but I do oppose deletion of this page. If I loose this page to you all, you would have just lost a user that has been with you since February and March. I am sorry if it is disrupting the rules, but I show this page to someone every day and I want to keep solely for that purpose.--User:ScottAHudson 12:31 AM, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Delete per WP:NOT.-Panser Born- (talk) 12:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm now changing my vote to Keep, as Scott has removed all inappropriate content since the page was nominated. -Panser Born- (talk) 20:46, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Keep- God will hate you if you delete this creative page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ScottAHudson (talk • contribs) 13:04, 28 May 2007 (UTC)- Pity I'm an agnostic.--WaltCip 15:36, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

- If you're so eager to get this page out onto the Internet, you might have better luck on Myspace. However, trying to vote 6 times will not make you any friends, and will probably only get this page speedy deleted.--WaltCip 15:38, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not eager to get it to the internet. I want to keep it in this website. So, I want to say that this page has no obligation to get deleted. ScottAHudson 20:37, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Delete. Wow, I thought I had a lot of edits in my edits in my userspace. Wikipedia is not a free webhost. The current revision of the page appears to consist mostly of duplicate content from articles on various reality shows. If the user truly needs access to this material, I suggest using a watchlist, or creating a much trimmed page that makes use of links that look like this: [[The Amazing Race 1#Results]]. A link like that will give ready access to the information without filling up your page, as seen here. --Kyoko 20:55, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

While the page is slightly improved now, all of the content about fantasy Amazing Race and Survivor contests has to be deleted, because userpages are meant to briefly describe the user in question and give a better idea of that person's interactions with Wikipedia. Please read WP:USER for more details. Constructing colourful tables about imaginary contests is fine... on another website, not on Wikipedia. --Kyoko 23:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. After extensive discussion, Scott has changed his page (as of [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:ScottAHudson&oldid=134630219 this revision) to conform with Wikipedia policy. While he should be encouraged to make more mainspace edits, his efforts to comply with WP:UP are a good start. --Kyoko 22:03, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

- I will remove all the Amazing Race fiction junk when it is July 4. Until then, it will remain on my page until it is July 4. I would love to see this page stay, but I do not think it will. I can envision me getting on one day and finding a red hyperlink for ScottAHudson. DO NOT DELETE MY PAGE! ScottAHudson 11:52PM, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- It can as easily be downloaded now as on July 4. The tables should open perfectly well as html tables, and you can add the necessary url prefix to the WP links.DGG 04:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Since an MfD was opened for your page, the date of when your page may be deleted is not for you to decide. As stated in the opening paragraph of WP:MFD, it is up to the closing admin of this debate, who has the right to close this discussion and delete the page 5 days after the start of discussion (June 1 at 05:27 UTC) if the result is to delete. Don't be red-faced if the admin doesn't bow to your wishes. Tinlinkin 08:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

- If you are intent on keeping this content online (as opposed to on your hard drive), why don't you search for other webhost providers? That way you can preserve your work and keep it online. One wiki site I know of (but have no personal experience with) is Wikia, and perhaps that site or a similar one might fit your needs. Considering your interest in reality shows, you might be able to find a wiki that is centered around Survivor, etc. Please understand that we're not trying to drive you away from Wikipedia, we just feel that the current content on your page violates WP:USER and WP:NOT. It would be great if all the effort you spent on your page were instead directed towards the encyclopedia. --Kyoko 13:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Delete per WP:NOT#MYSPACE. Scott, if you don't want to find a redlink next to your name, and want to preserve the history, just delete all of the information now, yourself, and start over with a new page. You will still have the tables to look back to in the page's history.Keep He's made the necessary changes, and there is no reason to delete now. EDIT: Also, Scott, if you are really into the imaginative stuff, check out The Imagine Wiki, which is full of fantasy and creative work from editors like you. hmwithtalk 07:02, 29 May 2007 (UTC)- That is, if the page is not deleted before you take this action. Tinlinkin 08:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Deleteper above and WP:UP#NOT for extensive content unrelated to the business of Wikipedia. Scott, whatever the motivation was to create a user page like yours (keeping track of your favorite shows, learning how to create and edit tables, extracting content like an RSS reader, your personal customization of WP articles, I don't know), you need to understand why it is inappropriate for it to remain in Wikipedia in its current form. The previous comments from other users stated the reasons clearly.- From my interpretation of the discussion above, your intent is to build and export an HTML page via Wikipedia. You may use Wikipedia to build Web pages of any purpose, and if they are not related to Wikipedia, you may use the "show preview" button to show the layout and then save the Wiki source code to your own hard drive (not that I have done this myself or support this use of Wiki software and servers). The important thing is you must not save it on the WP website.
- Here are two more pieces of advice for you: provided that you still do not intend to keep this stuff for long, you can create a user subpage within your space, such as User:ScottAHudson/Reality. If you want assistance from me to do this, I can help you. (Hence, I may also support a
moveto a subpage, but the subpage must not contain the fantasy stuff. I still support the above procedure more for your situation.) Second, use the "preview" button before you save pages. Otherwise, all your minor edits add up, and you attract attention that you are not here for Wikipedia's sake. Kyoko and Hmwith also offered good advice as well. Tinlinkin 08:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- User:ScottAHudson - How come the Imagine Wiki is not working. I click on it and it gives me a bad title/error screen. Is there anything that can help solve the issue? I would appericate anybody's advice.
-
- I've fixed the link, it should work properly now. -Panser Born- (talk) 14:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- User:ScottAHudson- Thanks.
- User:ScottAHudson- How can you delete an article that is nominated for deletion? I could help in any more deletions except the one for this page.
-
- Only admins can delete the articles, but regular editors can go to WP:XFD and find a deletion section they feel is appealing, and comment, backing up response with Wikipedia policy. hmwithtalk 16:16, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Does my page meet the goal for no deletion yet? User:ScottAHudson
- On the imagination Wikia, can you make tables and where to find the tool that creates tables because I couldn't find it when creating the table that I needed? User:ScottAHudson
- Question Before I can vote on this, it appears that the controversial material has simply been moved to User:ScottAHudson/Subpage for Favorite Games & Shows. I can see that Scott likes the wiki-software, and that he is getting good at working with the tables, etc. Is this stuff then allowed as a sub-page, with the assumption that it is not being kept there forever and the acknowledgement that it is giving Scott a chance to work with wiki-software and hence become a better editor? I do see that nearly all of his edits are to Userspace, which is concerning as well.—Gaff ταλκ 20:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Response The stuff will kept in the sub-page forever. I intended to not keep the fantasy stuff in my page forever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ScottAHudson (talk • contribs) 00:34, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that page is still a violation of WP:USER. I suggest you place the {{db-author}} template on it before it is also nominated for deletion. -Panser Born- (talk) 08:51, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- How do you type the code for the db user template? I get this when the page saves it: {{db-user}}
.ScottAHudson 12:11, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Scott, put "subst:" before it (like this: {{subst:db-wiki}}). Neil (►) 12:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- What is the formula for making tables on Imagine Wiki? ScottAHudson 14:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Keep: Scott is obviously making good faith efforts to comply with Userpage policies and avoid deletion. He should be allowed to keep the page, but may need to be monitored for the time being. I would like to see him contribute more to wikipedia, in terms of editing pages other than his userspace pages. —Gaff ταλκ 19:21, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Keep* As the nominator, I am satisfied with the efforts made and actions taken by Scott to address the situation, and would be willing to withdraw my nomination, though I would prefer to first hear the opinion of someone with more experience with WP:BLP regarding the contents of the page's history, specifically what appears to be the use of nonnotable living people as characters in the user's fantasy reality shows. Perhaps withdrawing is a moot point, as the discussion does not have much time left anyway. Beyond that I have no more issues with the user page, and thank Scott for complying. --Maxamegalon2000 23:15, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Keep I agree that the author made good-faith efforts and is taking everyone's advice seriously. To clarify my earlier point about moving to a subpage, I did not intend that the subpage take on the former contents of the main user page--the subpage obviously needs to be within WP:USER guidelines, and a unilateral move like that simply transfers the problem from one page to another. I regarded the old content more as tests, as Scott made some edits to some reality show articles (including one I was not pleased with: [2]). But I, too, believed the old page was like a MySpace page; I just thought some content was salvageable. Tinlinkin 01:14, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
