[edit] User:Michaelsanders/Dates in Harry Potter
Preservation of an unused/prior version article, since at least August of 07. Wikipedia is not an archive of preferred content. AvruchTalk 17:04, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Keep We're deleting sandboxes now? Johnbod (talk) 18:03, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Keep Agreeing with Johnbod : User-sandboxes shouldn't be the target of deletion. Michael Sanders 22:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

- Please see WP:USERPAGE#What_may_I_not_have_on_my_user_page.3F and specifically the section on 'Copies of other pages'. Per the policy, you may not store copies of preferred content. Are you saying that is not what this is? AvruchTalk 23:13, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, actually, that's not what it is. It was originally intended to be a simple preservation of an AFD in wikispace for use of the Harry Potter project active editors, without violating the decision of the AFD. However, I then had another look at the article, and decided that it was possible to rework it to make it address the AFD issues. So it's not actually a 'preservation' any more, as the label claims, except in terms of the page history. I just didn't bother to change the description of it on my user page. Michael Sanders 23:26, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Given his description above, it would not seem to be caught by the policy wording:"While userpages and subpages can be used as a development ground for generating new content, this space is not intended to indefinitely archive your preferred version of disputed or previously deleted content or indefinitely archive permanent content that is meant to be part of the encyclopedia. In other words, Wikipedia is not a free web host. Private copies of pages that are being used solely for long-term archival purposes may be subject to deletion." It's not been there that long. Johnbod (talk) 23:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- I drew the opposite conclusion... He seems to be saying that it was deleted via AfD, and he "intended it to be a simple preservation" of the deleted version of the article. If it is reworkable, it hasn't been edited since 8/07 and not substantively changed since April of 07. So it is an archived version of previously deleted content, no? - Delete the user may say he wishes to re-work it, but he actually hasn't edited the page since April. Up until the page was nominated for deletion the page was for Preservation of the article Dates in Harry Potter, for use by Wikiproject Harry Potter. Therefore, the page should be deleted per WP:UP#NOT, specifically WP:USERPAGE#Copies_of_other_pages. ~Sasha Callahan (Talk) 02:38, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- (Good God, I really need to start paying attention to my userpage...) It was called 'preservation etc.' because that was what it was originally meant to be. THEN I changed my mind, and REWORKED it before getting it reinstituted back into the main article space and through its AFD. If I ever decide to go back to the Harry Potter project, that would be one of the first things I'd deal with, so I'd be sandboxing on my userpage... Michael Sanders 03:21, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well then, since the article exists (at the title Chronology of the Harry Potter stories I assume since Dates in Harry Potter redirects there), this page has no purpose, and falls under WP:UP#NOT's clause about user pages "this space is not intended to indefinitely archive your preferred version of disputed or previously deleted content or indefinitely archive permanent content that is meant to be part of the encyclopedia" ~Sasha Callahan (Talk) 03:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the purpose is to be able to undertake radical revisions of the article outside the main article space. That's why it's there. It's not there to "indefinitely archive your preferred version", or "indefinitely archive permanent content that is meant to be part of the encyclopedia", it's there to allow me to undertake radical revisions of an article supporting a project I was until recently heavily involved with, and of which I may well still count as an inactive member, and which I still haven't decided if I will abandon. - Keep It's not being used unreasonably. DGG (talk) 07:47, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Sandbox per discussion above. This MfD could perhaps have been avoided had the nominator discussed the issue first. Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:54, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
