- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.
The result of the debate was speedy delete per WP:CSD#G5, as they were created by a banned user while they were banned. Jay Turner is a sockpuppet of Iamandrewrice, see the entry on the list of banned users. --Coredesat 08:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] User:Jay Turner/WikiPoints
Is a game to give points to users who do certain actions that are redeemable for specific barnstars. Per WP:NOT#SOCIALNET. MBisanz talk 20:48, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, Wikipedia:USER#What_may_I_not_have_on_my_user_page.3F is more on point in that it prohibits games on userpages. MBisanz talk 17:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

The following appear to be dummy pages relating to the game of finding the secret pages and should also be added. MER-C 02:08, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

- Keep - this is a userpage, it is harmless, let it be.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 05:43, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Delete - userspace or not, it's not an appropriate use of Wikipedia. It does nothing to build the encyclopedia, and has no relevance to doing so. If a treasure hunt is in order, we have 8 jillion articles full of facts that people can hunt for, instead of sending them through a maze of userpages that aren't a part of the encyclopedia in any way. --Cheeser1 (talk) 08:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Comment I added a number of redirects which will also need to be cleared up if this system is deleted, and two templates, one of which is being discussed at TfD. Happy‑melon 10:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - we have traditionally allowed users great freedom to manage their userspace as they see fit. But can we please at the very least clean up some of the mess of redirects that this system and username-change has created, and get rid of the pages in templatespace? Happy‑melon 10:36, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Keep - I will move all this into my Userspace, where it's allowed. --Jay Turner (talk · contribs) 16:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Delete per Cheeser1. Barnstars are here to reward "hard work and due diligence", not clicking around on userpages. This sort of thing might be fun, but it's not merely unrelated to building the encyclopedia – the clutter and server work it creates are inimical to WP's purpose. – Scartol • Tok 16:48, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, this isn't a social network, and we just don't need people hawking barnstars around Mayalld (talk) 17:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- keep User:Jay Turner/WikiPoint most of the things there are useful for the project so this isn't just social networking. For example, he awards 6 points for creating a useful page and 10 points for a major edit to a page. This is an alternative system encouraging helpful editing, not a social game. Furthermore, the user is in good standing and has contributed productively to the project- as shown by his mainspace contributions. Given that this game encourages actual productivity and that the user is in good standing we should keep. JoshuaZ (talk) 17:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Viewing his current talk page, I cannot agree that he is "in good standing". Mr Turner has in the last few days been warned for vandalism to this page, blocked for the vandal-move noted below, and warned again for page blanking at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 February 11. I am tempted to warn him a fourth time for this edit, which is similarly unacceptable. Overall his response to this perfectly legitimate MfD strikes me as childish and disruptive, and will doubtless sway otherwise undecided editors towards deletion. Happy‑melon 20:14, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've initiated this Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Jay Turner given the large number of different individuals claiming to share his IP address. MBisanz talk 20:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Comment: for the record, User:Jay Turner seems to have moved this page to a jibberish page[1] in a bad-faith attempt to disrupt this process. --Cheeser1 (talk) 17:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Delete per points made in Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject WikiPoints: same content, different title. The games themselves appear to be childish, so the content is inappropriate. Concerned user's attempts to disrupt this process speaks volumes. A namespace restriction may be appropriate here to focus the editor on editing the encyclopedia. MER-C 02:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)- Speedy delete - {{db-banned}} as per below. MER-C 08:05, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Delete - Wikipedia is not a social network, and games like these disrupt the concept of actually contributing to an encyclopedia. Plus, it's irrevelant to Wikipedia and does nothing to encourage users to do so. Σpsilon60198 我聪明! 03:35, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Comment Per Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Jay Turner, User:Jay Turner, User:Jay Turner-Secret, User:Jaytur1, User:ScreenagerPresents, and User:86.135.46.88 are sockpuppets of banned user User:Iamandrewrice. I've requested they be indef blocked per policy, which sorta makes this whole userspace thing moot. MBisanz talk 06:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
