[edit] User:Example/Edittemplate
This is a userbox which shows the following text: "This user has made 1 edit(s)". The number has to be adapted in the code itself. As an edit count userbox, this template is superfluous, as we already have {{user contrib}}. More importantly however, it is used on the page of User:Example. As this user is found in many policies and guidelines, the page will likely be viewed often by novice editors. Seeing this userbox on an 'examplary' user page, they might get the impression that the number of edits of a user is important. Which, of course, it is not. Face 10:58, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Remark: This userbox started as a joke on 28 April 2006[1] got modified to say "0 edits" on 8 August 2006[2] and then modified to say "1 edits" on 15 January 2007[3]. The template was probably generated later by copypasting the code. --Enric Naval (talk) 15:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Delete the template and replace the one on User:Example for another one that encourages users to more constructive behaviours related to improving articles like {{user citing sources}} or behaviour clues for new users like {{User:UBX/signsposts}} or a neutral userbox like {{User Wikipedian For}}, {{UBX/numberofusers}}, {{user numberofarticles}}, {{User:Basketball110/OWN}}, {{User:Youre dreaming eh?/Userboxes/Destiny}} or {{user numberofarticles}}, or delete it alltogether. It you still want a joke userbox, then I suggest {{User wikipedia:Wikipediholic}} or {{User:Hotspot/userbox/useless}} (LOL, I suggest using this last one, it's just too appropiate). WP:USERBOX has more examples. --Enric Naval (talk) 15:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

- He he, those last two userboxes made me laugh. I would still prefer something more serieus however. Those first two userboxes, about citing sources and signing posts, display very important Wikipedia norms. The other boxes show either general info about WP or trivial stuff about the user. I suggest the first two boxes among with the custom userbox which is already there. How's that? - Face 19:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Delete the template and replace it with a more appropriate one as above. The 'time on Wikipedia' one seems sensible. RichardΩ612 Ɣ |ɸ 16:25, April 28, 2008 (UTC)
- Keep but add some other constructive userboxes --Big Fat Monkey (talk) 09:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Comment I BOLDly replaced the userboxes[4]. --Enric Naval (talk) 15:16, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Comment The template itself still needs to be deleted. Looking at what links here, it's only used on copies of the example user page, and many people have not changed it from the default. --Enric Naval (talk) 15:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
