[edit] User:Editor19841/Denver 2008
Not Wikipedia related, WP:NOT a free webhost, subject is nearly over pending announcement of DNC in 2008 (unless its happened, I don't believe so), would not be useful information for an article on the DNC in 2008. If Denver is not chosen, userbox and category should be deleted as well. --MECU≈talk 17:01, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Delete Wikipedia is neither a blog nor a soapbox. – Anþony talk 20:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. This is my userpage and my opinion separate from editing. This proposal for deletion is insulting and wrong and I will stand by my work. Editor19841 (talk) 01:36, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Comment Yes, it is your userspace, but you do not own it. Please read WP:USER for the policy on userspace. The nomination for deletion isn't a direct attack upon you as an editor or your hard work in putting this page together. It's just to say that I think this page doesn't follow the policy and think it should be deleted, and then seek input from others. Please do not take it personally. If Denver is chosen, you should put your work into the article about the DNC at Denver in 2008. --MECU≈talk 14:18, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Delete. WP:NOT for advocacy or advertising either. If this is an opinion "separate from editing", why can't it be separate from Wikipedia? Bi 03:26, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. This seems to be a legitimate user page and a user should be allowed to espouse whatever particular views they want so long as it is confined to their own user page. This user just seems to be super-excited about the 2008 DNC convention. Looking at the user's contributions, has made quite a few (although almost all minor) and the account doesn't appear to be a front for a business/political group or anything like that.--Velvet elvis81 04:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

- Comment. "[A]lmost all minor"? C'mon! Editor19841 (talk) 00:54, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Delete any page whose purpose is to "...show Denver the support of the Wikipedian community..." for the DNC. Stupid, userpages are not for campaigning. -Amarkov blahedits 04:40, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

- Delete - Userpages and user subpages are given significant leeway when maintained by productive editors. However, WP:NOT has a section entitled What your user page is not that leads to Wikipedia:User page. Eight items are bulleted under the User page section entitled What can I not have on my user page?. Denver 2008 includes (i) a prohibited weblog relating non-Wikipedia activities, (ii) extensive discussion not related to Wikipedia, and (iii) extensive personal opinions on matters unrelated to Wikipedia. The topic of the page is to facilitate communication among Wikipedians about an event outside of Wikiepdia, which is not allowed per What can I not have on my user page? Although a user is entitled to express their political support via userboxes per What can I not have on my user page?, the political and competitive economic tones of the Denver 2008 page make the userpage at risk to become disruptive to the Wikipedia community. WP:NOT also states that Wikipedia is not a vehicle for propaganda (advocacy). The Denver 2008 page asserted purpose is to influence the opinions and behavior of other Wikipedians by arguing on behalf of Denver and that city's bid to host the DNC. The page is both propaganda and advocacy, which is not allowed by WP:NOT. The appropriate course of action in this case appears to be Delete. -- Jreferee 18:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

- Comment. I'm innocent! I'll do as I please with my personal, non-mainspace pages. Leave me be! As Velvet elvis81 stated in my defense, I'm just "super-excited"! What harm have I done to any of you or Wikipedia who oppose my page? Editor19841 (talk) 00:54, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

- Um... you are trying to get the Wikipedia community to show support of a political position. That is harmful... -Amarkov blahedits 01:49, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- You do not own the pages in your user subspace. You can do as you please with your personal pages, but pages on Wikipedia are public and not WP:OWNed by you. In particular, they need to comply with Wikipedia policiesKusma (討論) 08:20, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
