The result of the debate was Delete. This is the clearest case of WP:NOT "a free webhost" that I've ever seen. Xoloz 17:07, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] User:Boston Boys Fantasy Baseball
All of this user's edits have been to this page, save an attempt to include it in the fantasy baseball article. Total self-promotion, inappropriate use of Wikipedia and of a User page. User:Zoe|(talk) 21:05, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
This is my user space, i can put whatever i want in it. I am putting this in it because this tells you all you need to know about me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Boston Boys Fantasy Baseball (talk • contribs) 21:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Where do you get the idea that you can put whatever you want into your user space? Where is the policy which says this? User:Zoe|(talk) 21:19, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Delete. Notwithstanding that I'd love to get in the league, if only to play against a group who fail to draft Johan Santana before the seventeenth round (even in 2004) (the revelation of which factoid lends a hoaxish quality to parts of the page), this absolutely is a use of Wikipedia as a page or blog host, in contravention of WP:USER and WP:NOT. This would likely qualify for deletion irrespective of the user, but surely when the page belongs to a user who hasn't shown any interest in partaking of encyclopedic tasks (witness, for example, his comment to Zoe that he would be willing to make some substantive contributions to Wikipedia were the MfD tag from his page to be removed; surely we can thence infer that he doesn't intend to become involved with the production an encyclopedia--additionally, his only mainspaces edits were two cursory ones to Boston Red Sox [that were eventually reverted as unnecessary] and two to fantasy baseball, to insert linkspam), deletion is altogether appropriate. - CommentIf you leave this alone you can join the league and have johan for free...come on just LET IT GO. To Joe: How is your "brief biography" in your user space any different from what i have? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boston Boys Fantasy Baseball (talk • contribs)
- Comment I know, I know, don't feed the trolls, but I'm going to take this question as having been offered in good faith. Principally, my brief biography is different from your fantasy baseball treatise in two ways: (1) it serves to let other users know more about me (and about my interests), in order that a collegial spirit necessary for encyclopedic collaboration might be fostered (and in order that users might know what subjects are of particular import to me) (cf., your page, which serves not to tell much about you, save for your being interested in fantasy baseball, but instead reveals the interpersonal idiosyncracies and statistical minutiae of your fantasy league; where my primary purpose is to inform other users about me--for encyclopedic ends, no less--yours ostensibly is to use WP as a webhost); and, (2) I contribute to the encyclopedia in a substantive fashion (I am certain that other users would deal with you differently had you not made edits exclusively apropos of your fantasy baseball league; as WP:USER reminds us, If the community lets you know that they would rather you deleted some or other content from your user space, you should probably do so, at least for now - such content is only permitted with the consent of the community. After you've been here for a while, and written lots of great articles, the community may be more inclined to let you get away with it. Alternatively, you could move the content to another site, and link to it.). Finally, it would certainly be helpful if you would sign your posts on talk pages. TIA. Joe 22:09, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
