Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:AnarcistPig/Uncyclopedia

The result of the debate was KEEP - They are not duplicates, merge and redirect is not appropriate, substitution of userboxes is of no benefit to the project and unnecessarily forces users to manager their userspace in a particular way (I note that many very experienced users create layers upon layers of subpages and nest them one inside the other), variety in userboxes is fine and that's precisely why the CSD criteria don't apply. All of these templates currently reside in userspace where wide latitude is traditionally afforded users and the general rule is if you can have the text in your userspace you can have it in a userbox Doug.(talk • contribs) 06:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] User:AnarcistPig/Uncyclopedia
I propose the following userboxes be substituted where they are transcluded, then deleted:
- 1 User:AnarcistPig/Uncyclopedia
- 1 User:Anger2headshot/Templates/Uncyclopedian
- 2 User:Bobby D. DS./Userboxes/Uncyclopedian
- 2 User:Gokugohan382/userboxes/uncyclopedia
- 2 User:Mugunth Kumar/Userboxes/Uncyclopedia
- 3 User:Otolemur crassicaudatus/Userboxes/User Uncyclopedia
- 3 User:Raquel Sama/userboxes/desciclopedian
- The number on the left is the amount of pages it transcludes on. There is already a HUGE LIST of Uncyclopedia userboxes already, but these duplicates don't quite quality for CSD T3. Otterathome (talk) 15:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- As there has been four keep votes, my rationale for deletion doesn't seem good enough. So I decided to link to the relevant pages:
- Duplicates need to be merged, choose the most suitable, turning the one for removal into a redirect, and following the guide below from step 2.
- Potentially divisive words in userboxes: believes, considers, favors, finds, knows, prefers, thinks and wishes.
- Wikipedia provides user pages to facilitate communication among participants in its project to build an encyclopedia. Advertising or promotion of a business or organization unrelated to Wikipedia (such as purely commercial sites or referral links), Other non-encyclopedic related material, Games, roleplaying sessions, and other things pertaining to "entertainment" rather than "writing an encyclopedia," particularly if they involve people who are not active participants in the project. A weblog recording your non-Wikipedia activities. In some cases, material that does not somehow further the goals of the project may be removed.
- Wikipedia is not a soapbox, a battleground, or a vehicle for propaganda and advertising. This applies to articles, categories, templates, talk page discussions, and user pages. Therefore, all content hosted in Wikipedia is not: Self-promotion. It can be tempting to write about yourself or projects you have a strong personal involvement in. Wikipedia is not a social network such as MySpace or Facebook. You may not host your own website, blog, or wiki at Wikipedia. Wikipedia pages are not: Personal web pages. Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. The focus of user pages should not be social networking. Wikipedia is not your web host. More importantly, your user page is not yours. It is a part of Wikipedia, and exists to make collaboration among Wikipedians easier, not for self-promotion.
- Probably does not comply with WP:SPAM either.

- I think that I quoted all the relevant sections, but of course I probably missed some. Also please note Uncyclopedia is not in the same category as Wikispecies, Wikiquote, Wiktionary etc. It is not part of the Wikimedia Foundation.--Otterathome (talk) 23:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry but what is the reason to keep?--Otterathome (talk) 11:55, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Comment rationale has now been expanded.--Otterathome (talk) 23:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Okay:
- None of the templates are identical, and whilst some are similar, their content differs somewhat. Seeing they are userspace content, users should be able to select the userbox they want to use. They are sufficiently different for userspace content.
- Divisive words are not used to create a negative comparison, which is the specific use which WP:UBX refers to.
- They are not part of an advertisment, game, blog, etc. Under this argument, you seem to suggest that all userboxes should be banned. Is this part of some wider issue? Userboxes can be constructive, as they lighten the mood of users, and improve morale.
- How, exactly, do these violate WP:NOT.
- Please don't blindly quote policies and guidelines. You should explain why you feel they apply here. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 23:38, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- They aren't identical, but they are duplicates of the same purpose so need merging. The userboxes will be substituted before being deleted, just the sub-page is being deleted, so there is basically no loss of information. Some of the userboxes give a point of view. How many different userboxes based on the same website is too many before it is considered spam? There are currently 13 Un' userboxes that I have found and got several other un-used ones speedy deleted. Replace Uncyclopedia in every userbox with another random web forum and I think you'll get my view of things.--Otterathome (talk) 23:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- I still think they are sufficiently different. Userspace content is not required to conform to WP:NPOV. Uncyclopedia is a fairly notable website. The userboxes were created by different users, so are not spam. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 06:16, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
