The result of the debate was Keep. I am going to be bold and close this early; since the article of this talk page has been created, the real discussion should be at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. LordViD 05:09, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Talk:Brad Wilson
Non-notable cricket player and this talk page was created by anonymous user generally known as the Vegan Vandal ( WP:VIP/LTA#Vegan vandal ). This user currently creates about 4-5 talk pages a day (See also: Talk:Ehsanul Haque, Talk:Craig Smith, Talk:Sean Eathorne ). The entries themselves are substubs and contain little or no information. Many attempts have been made by various people trying to get this user to register, but have failed since his other edits mainly consist of misinformation and vandalism and the user is commonly known as the "Vegan Vandal" for his unreferenced inclusion of random celebrities in the Vegans category.
The cricket stub are generally correct and contain verifiable information, so there were some attempts upto now to rename the page, but I feel it is encouraging him to make even more stubs. Since this kind of behaviour does not fall in any known speedy criteria it is wise to get some consensus from other users how to handle this problem, hence this nomination. *Speedy delete, under G8; talk page of a deleted (or non-existant) article. LordViD 15:08, 10 January 2006 (UTC) Keep, now that there is an article for Brad Wilson. LordViD 04:38, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Keep if it is reasonably easy to source such articles, but if the information can't easily be verified there's no reason to assume it's accurate given the history of the individual. Christopher Parham (talk) 19:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- The point being that unless an article like this is a hoax, it should just be moved into article space and kept. Since it's rather easy to confirm the accuracy of this stub on google, it should be kept and moved to Brad Wilson, and the same for all similar articles. Christopher Parham (talk) 22:52, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- There are three problems with this. The contents are sub-stub. The user just creates more talk pages, since he does not want to register given his other 'contributions'. The other problem is that I was banned for 1 minute (luckily the administrator immediately noticed his error) for the moving, since it appeared like vandalism, so a move like that is tricky. The best solution is a technical one, but that will take time, because it seems like this is one of the first users who has discovered this trick. Personally I don't want to move the pages if there is a chance that somebody will judge it the wrong way. KittenKlub 23:09, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- This article at least is of sufficient length as to be useful -- it clearly identifies the subject (full name, DOB, nationality, basis for notability) and also provides some information that would not be apparant simply from a rough knowledge of who this person is. So it's not so minimal that it should be deleted. If you really are cautious about performing the moves yourself, let me know and I'll be happy to take care of it, I suppose. As far as the user's behavior, I don't really have a problem with this aspect of it; we've blocked anons from creating articles, and this seems like a reasonable way around that (which requires a registered user to confirm the article's validity by moving it into the article space). - Keep I have moved the article to the main article namespace, referenced it up and expanded it. Arguably this discussion should now move to AfD, and I have no objections if someone chooses to do this. Brad Wilson is notable - he is a current (though young) player competing at the highest domestic level of cricket in New Zealand. At present he had played 6 first-class matches (WP:Cricket's policy is that any cricketer who has played at least 1 first-class match is worthy of an article). Admittedly his early form has now dipped, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he was dropped soon - but Wilson clearly meets the required recognition level to have a WP article. Incidentally, the "Vegan vandal" (as he's become known) has always added correct information about cricketers except when he has claimed that those cricketers are vegans (which hasn't happened for a while). I can't understand why someone would write lots of accurate cricket substubs and then go on to vandalise other articles - but that's what's happening, jguk 22:47, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
