Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Sandboxes

The result of the debate was Speedy Keep All. The userpage guidelines clearly allow for user-sandboxes. We have a process for changing policies and guidelines, and it is NOT MFD. If there is a specific issue with a specific user sandbox, please nominate it serperatley, or in bulk only if they are dierctly related to a specific problem (such as a walled garden of unacceptable use sandboxes) — xaosflux Talk 15:34, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] User sandboxes
They are a complete waste of time, since we already have the Wikipedia Sandbox, and they seem to be just a place for the users who created them to vandalise, just because vandalising is fun, and everyone wants to do it. I once made my own sandbox, but I always used the Wikipedia Sandbox, so I had it deleted. The others have no purpose at all, such as User:Domthedude001/Sandbox2, which has no point at all, other than a little game. The following are user sandboxes that I am listing for deletion.Note:This page was originally put up by User:ANNAfoxlover
- User:Goldfritter/Sandbox
- User:Domthedude001/Sandbox
- User:Domthedude001/Sandbox2
- User:Forum User/Sandbox
- User:Ian Evil/Sandbox
- User:Urbane User/Sandbox
- User:Motorfix/Sandbox
- User:Lewis1350/sandbox
- User:Metros232/Sandbox
- User:Tuesday Teen/Sandbox
- User:AYArktos/sandbox
- User:Mattderojas/Sandbox
- User:Mattderojas/Sandbox/About examples
- User:Jasenlee/sandbox
- User:Andrewa/sandbox
- ...and all other personal sandboxes anyone can find.
- Strong keep everyone is entitled to their personal sandboxes for Wikipedia related trials of formatting, article writing, etc. For example, see mine: User:Metros232/Sandbox. Domthedude001's 2nd sandbox might be worthy of investigation further as a seperate MfD, however. Metros232 14:51, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

- We already have the Wikipedia:Sandbox. Nobody needs their own. We have the Wikipedia Sandbox. A•N•N•A hi! 14:52, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well then you've got an issue with policy, see WP:USER#What_about_user_subpages.3F. Metros232 14:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

- Keep - The purpose of user sandboxes is usually to experiment with page ideas, formatting, and other things (though they're not always used for that purpose). It would be impossible to do that on the main sandbox because it would constantly be erased, and messed with, keeping it from being worked on freely. If a user is only using it to play, and doesn't do much with the actual encyclopedia, then that sandbox should be deleted in a separate MfD. Nemu 15:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Strong keep per the policy quoted by Metros232. Sandboxes are usually for editors to either work on articles they are intending to create or test how a piece of Wiki markup works. This is a perfectly reasonable use of user sub pages. Gwernol 15:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Keep. This MfD is nonsense, they are not a waste of time, especially if the users are contributing the the encyclopedia. Excepting circumstances where the content is objectional or otherwise fulfills another seperate deletion reason (such as CSD), sandboxes are allowed in userspaces per WP:USER. All due respect to ANNAfoxlover, however, as she is acting in good faith and as she knows best. --Deskana (ya rly) 15:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Keep per policy, and for the fact that when someone wants to add major revisions to an article, it's much easier to do it in a personal sandbox than on the live article. I had an incident with that just two days ago in which an editor was completely rewriting an article, and I, not knowing of this, undid his work as vandalism. Plus, if they are being used in productive manner, why do they need to be deleted, anyway? HornandsoccerTalk 15:17, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
