The result of the debate was Delete the March bio page, Rename the parent page per Kusma. I also deleted Portal:Bible/Selected biography since it was essentially identical to the March biography page. Ëvilphoenix Burn! 00:04, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Portal:Bible/Featured biography and Portal:Bible/Featured biography/March, 2006
Inherently biased - it assumes historicity, which is something that groups often dispute. The March 2006 example is particularly biased. Clinkophonist 17:46, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Delete the March bio page, Rename the parent page per Kusma The March biography shows how atrocious this idea is. Inherently biased, indeed. "God (born: infinity ago)..." This actually trivializes the Divinity; terribly inappropriate for any encyclopedia. Xoloz 21:00, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Rename to Portal:Bible/Selected person or something similar to remove the POV inherent in the bad title "biography". The trivialization of God is a content issue that does not require giving up the reasonable idea of focussing on a specific person every month. Kusma (討論) 19:57, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- You are correct that the problem with the March entry is peculiar to it; however, my comment was intended to suggest that any "selected person" choice on a biblical topic is likely to be controversial. God is an especially bad case, but I cannot think of a good, non-controversial case. Xoloz 21:12, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think that David, Paul of Tarsus, and Joseph (Hebrew Bible) could be decent and not too controversial possible choices, if a Selected person is to be included on the Bible portal. However, this is a matter that should really be discussed at Portal talk:Bible. Kusma (討論) 21:53, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I thought about this a bit, and I think Kusma is correct. There probably are biblical people (I like your suggest of Joseph, Patriarch of Israel) who would be uncontroversial. The selectors should be very careful, though. I have amended my vote above to clarify. Xoloz 13:06, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

- Keep This is much ado about nothing. "Biography" does not imply anything about the subject -- not even that it is real. They don't even have to apply to persons! See, for example, Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea, America's Constitution: A Biography, God: A Biography, London: The Biography, Africa: The Biography of a Continent, Turkish Reflections: The Biography of a Place. --Hyphen5 14:03, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
