[edit] MediaWiki:Tooltip-article
See the TfD of {{tooltip-article}} for my reasoning. Basically, this is a redirect that has ended up in MediaWiki: space by mistake, redirecting to a template that was moved into Template: space by mistake by a confused devbot; neither this page nor the template it redirects to should exist. To prevent any disruption that might be caused if I'm badly wrong in my reasoning, the system message needs to be deleted before the template it redirects to, so that the default fallback mechanism will work if the message does in fact do something (but I'm pretty sure it doesn't, as it's not in the list of required system messages and system messages don't as far as I know recognise #REDIRECT syntax). Incorrectly deleting a system message doesn't actually do any major harm; it just causes the default fallback to be used. --ais523 10:50, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- This should be speedy deleted under G6, housekeeping. - ∅ (∅), 15:56, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- I thought of that, but I don't think it's good form to speedy something when it takes three paragraphs to explain why. If there isn't any objection here soon, though, I might delete it under WP:IAR on the basis that no rules have yet been formulated to deal with this sort of thing. --ais523 17:19, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Eh, if it's a Highly Technical Flub That Shouldn't Be a Problem In First Place and a Clear, Noncontroversial Rationale To Delete the Stuff Exists, I don't think this needs to go through XfDs at all; a good form would be just perhaps discuss it beforehand in appropriate forum (VPT or AN.) I'm not sure what good mentioning the thing here does. So, by all means, go ahead and delete it if that's actually required for the site to operate correctly. If something breaks, revert; if something breaks and someone notices, utter "my bad" and revert. =) --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 17:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Speedy delete per WP:CSD#R3 - The redirect was created by a bot and there is no evidence that any human has ever used the redirect. It looks like a redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer. Since it was created by a bot, I would say that the "Recently created" aspect of WP:CSD#R3 does not apply. If a human thinks the redirect is needed in the future, they can create it. -- Jreferee t/c 19:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Speedy Delete per ais523's explanation. Rocket000 (talk) 09:58, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
