A welcome from Sango123

Hello, Misza13, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

FR-Template

Hello,

I see that you removed the FR-template (as it had been discuted for a while). Could you be so kind as to tell where I should redirect all the well-intentioned people who add a {{context}} flag on articles (this flag is really hard for me, after countless hours of working)? Thank you —Reply to David Latapie 16:25, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Great work from you. On a side note, I personally consider the Wikipedia should be as templated as possible. From an engineering point of view, copy-pasting 100 articles instead of just changing one, central, template, file, looks to me as a stupid move (I did not say YOU are stupid ;-) ). I don't understand why the Wikipedia community do that. Have some ideas? Reply to David Latapie

Hi

I am submitting an article on HANS GRAF VON SPONECK for the military (German) listing. I have successfully prepared the doc for submission but now am 'stuck' to coninue. It requires me to 'remove' Wiki after I have finished and I dont know how to remove this template. Could you help by looking at the site and helping me. I also have a fine private photo of him. Thanks Godfrey von Sponneck --Von Sponneck 08:07, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you Michal for your prompt reply. By 'stuck' I actually mean I was not able to go forward any more. I had tried everything and did not find out how to remove Wiki. Thanks for your kind help and assistance. I would like to ask you later to help with photos. If you have time and use 'SKYPE' perhaps we can do it which we talk live. I would assume however that you dont have time.
Best regards, Godfrey

Add yourself to the FR Wikiproject

Hey, as you are quite active on this, you may consider adding yourself on the list of FR-Wikiproject participants. It is a central point for gathering questions and solving issues, as well as a way to know who else is working on it.

Invitation to the Forgotten Realms project

Hi,

We are working on a Forgotten Realms Project to map Toril (mostly Faerûn, at the present). Since you contributed quite a lot on a Forgotten Realms-specific entry, I'd like to invite you to join the project, so we could improve the “Mapping the Realms” project.

The goal is to create a sort of World Factbook for the Realms. This means:

  • A consistent content
  • Use of templates
  • Entries should be limited to “sovereign places”: states and free cities, as well a moderately-inhabited place such as the Western Highlands.

On top of this, we also plan to cover Lost Empires, such as Pelvuria or Imaskar and, of course, Netheril

Main contributors are presently

Feel free to take a look. We hope to see you soon mapping the Realms with us! Reply to David Latapie 12:21, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Cold War

Hi, I see that you reverted my edit on Cold War. The reason I removed the text is that it was an unwikified load on top of the current article. Can you take a look at it? Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:42, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, mea culpa. I'm recently spending a lot of time on RC patrol, mercilessly hunting massive deletions/blankings - I have mistakenly taken your edit as such. As a side note, why not just leave that text and work on it? --Misza13 (Talk) 14:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

I was in "RC Patrol mode", and not in "work on an article to make it better mode" myself as well. Basically, adding the text dump made the article look poor (after all, two different articles on the Cold War on the same page) and I was in no mood to start the delicate work of merging bits and pieces into the former article. Anyway, thanks for helping out on the RC patrol, it is a pretty sweaty work. :-) Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:59, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

History should be restored on Social Security page

After the vandalism, the restored version cut out the history, unless of course you want to break that out too into another article. John wesley 18:51, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

A strage behaviour of the Popups utility, I suppose. I did go back in the diff history to make sure I'm reverting a whole batch of vandalism but the bogon radiation probably messed up something anyway. --Misza13 (Talk) 19:27, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

What's up with those userboxes?

{{helpme}}

I don't know if anyone will ever come here, but anyway... I'm recently confused and frustrated by all the mess with userboxes. Having logged today I have noticed a userbox on my page (namely {{User no evil boxes}}) changed into a red link. No TfD tag, no discussion, nothing. Apparently it was speedied and I don't even know how to check who did it and who's to blame. While trying to recreate it from scratch I also noticed that {{user freedom}} was also removed. Also, many boxes from Wikipedia:Userboxes/Userboxes#Userbox Opinions and Politics have vanished as well (red links as proof of backlink-careless deletion). I mean, okay after a proper discussion and reached consensus they can be deleted, but those userbox-hating-authoritary-admins make me want to leave this community. What I have even noticed is that in some cases userboxes were deleted despite consensus saying otherwise. Now I know that Wikipedia is not a democracy, but some admins apparently understand it as Wikipedia is adminocracy ruled by Jimbo the King. They seem to freely base their decisions on "Jimbo stated that..." or on various policies (whichever suits them better). Actually the policies are also confusing - at time I remember there were at least 3 different places where userbox policy was extensively discussed - and how is one to catch up with it and defend his point? And all the while the boxes keep dying one after another... Okay, enough with this rant - I don't think anyone cares anyway, but if some experienced and well informed on this matter user could help me in my frustration, I'd be grateful. Misza13 (Talk) 12:25, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

You can check the deletion log ([1]). Just go to Special:Log and select delete. Then search. There is guy going around substituing deleted userboxes onto peoples userpages, so maybe yours will get fixed up that way. And if you do recreate it, keep in mind that you can only do so in your userspace, not in the template namespace.--Commander Keane 12:51, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Yep - let's move all userboxes to some userspace (or project space), and then let the deletionist fume to their heart extent.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 18:28, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I'm an inclusionist, but thanks for asking. Also, we've been advocating the substing and movement of these things to user space for quite some time now, not that anyone's been listening. Mackensen (talk) 18:24, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, we're listening now. Your disruption has made your point, hey, wait, isn't that against guidelines? Hmm, let's see, yep, right here at WP:POINT. So why don't you undelete them, put messages on the templates to show that they need to be subseted in X hours and give people a chance to do so? The Ungovernable Force 05:56, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for signing my manifesto and taking an active role in combating the speedy deletion of userboxes. Also, I like your userbox, but it took me a long time to get my userpage looking spiffy and formatted well, so I don't want to add more userboxes. deleted templates

I'm sorry to have forgotton the <noinclude> tags on these userboxes. However users could easily have removed the templates from their userpages to avoid the mistake: that is, if any users were actually using these userboxes (which they weren't at the time of deletion, at least according to "What links here"). To accuse me of vandalism is a serious breach of WP:AGF. Physchim62 (talk) 22:12, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Okay, so no vandalism then. I change the accusation to incompetence and irresponsibility. I am mostly annoyed by this because it is not the first such case when an admin is so hasty in {{deletedpage}}'ing and protecting the 'boxen that they simply don't care. Anyway, thanks for not ingoring me at all like others do. Misza13 (Talk) 22:21, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

What if someone crossed out the Polish flag?

Would you find that respectful? ROGNNTUDJUU! 17:22, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, technically any disagreement could be seen as a lack of respect, but since when a lack thereof is a crime? And crossing something out is a universally understood way of disagreement expression, so it would be fine with me. Leaving that aside, you seem to have abundant amounts of free time. Why don't you use it up on something useful (instead wasting it in pointless debates)? Like writing an encyclopedia? You see, there's still a lot to be done. Misza13 T C E 19:09, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
You know what? Abusing wikispace for divisive user boxes is not in any way helpful for improving an encyclopedia. Same holds for double standards on images. I use mine in a helpful way: {{user respect}} ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:12, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Your userbox is as divisive at the anti-EU one (so don't be surprised if you wake up one day just to see that it's gone), so please go back to writing encyclopedia and stop wasting my and other people's time with this trolling. Thank you. Misza13 T C E 12:45, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Good job

I just wanted to commend you for the way in which you've been handling this situation involving ROGNNTUDJUU!. The two images he has been posting everywhere, the crossed-out US and UK flags, have been nominated for deletion at WP:IFD because of their violation of policy (they were only uploaded to prove a point, as he even admitted to on the images' talk pages). Hopefully ROGNNTUDJUU! will learn what is appropriate in this community and things will cool down. But, until then, keep up the good work, and if you want any support in anything, I'm around. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metros232 (talkcontribs)

Question

Do you write the revert messages such as "Reverted edits by 195.195.127.253 to last version by Quiddity" every time manually, or do you use some script or template? Thanks, ---Marcus- 12:16, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

No, obviously. This would be too tedious. I'm using a JavaScript code which does it automatically. It's called godmode-lite.js (should be somewhere on WP:US) and emulates the "rollback" action normally available only to admins. Misza13 T C 12:21, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

However, I think I'll do some upgrades to the userbox - it could use some face-lifting. Misza13 T C 22:10, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

RuneScape

Sorry for accidentally reverting your revert of vandalism on RuneScape...we must have hit revert at the same time and you got to it first. Schzmo 11:57, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

It's ok. That's what often happens when two people "race for revert" and both are armed only with JavaScript tools (your popups vs my godmode-lite.js) - the long time it takes to revert this way sometimes causes such strange effects. Misza13 T C 12:02, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Alien vs. Predator

What's the problem? That article needs MAJOR cleanup work and I'm taking it upon myself to do it. Why would you revert my edits? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.36.17.218 (talkcontribs) 22:01, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, actually, from my view you have removed a massive amount of content without specifying an edit summary. This is very confusing for other editors, especially because massive blankings of articles are one os the most frequest forms of vandalism here. You might also considering registering as edits made by anonymous IPs are also more conspicious. Finally, you could use the {{inuse}} template to indicate the fact that you're working on the article. Misza13 T C 21:35, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Exactly. If need be, use the preview button, but don't slaughter the article while you're in the process of "cleaning it up". Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:37, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Maybe this is a matter of me inproperly stating my intentions. I'm all to happy to continue allowing anyone and everyone to make edits to the page, including my work. HOWEVER, much of what's on that page (as is noted on the edit page) is simply speculation inserted based on people's memories of the film. In addition, I don't feel that such an in-depth breakdown of the entire film story - including spoilers - is neccesary for a descriptive page on the film. I honestly feel that my edits make the page cleaner, easier to understand and more direct. I simply don't have enough time to spend several hours fixing everything in one big sitting, if you guys woukld like to add to or modify my edits, please do, but don't simply revert my work. I'm trying to benefit the page, not vandalize it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.36.17.218 (talkcontribs) 21:26, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Ok then. But may I suggest that you:
  1. edit the article in small parts,
  2. specify proper edit summaries,
  3. register,
  4. sign your posts with "~~~~"?
Thank you. Misza13 T C 22:04, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
No one is questioning your motives here, but the fact does remain that you have already violated WP:3RR and three other editors have found your changes to be unhelpful (and reverted them as such). If you disagree with how the article is written and would like to make major sweeping changes to it, please discuss these changes at Talk:Alien vs. Predator (film) beforehand. There's nothing wrong in being bold with your editing, but disregarding community consensus is disrespectful, and violating the three revert rule is a blockable offense. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 22:07, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, but: 1. I did put something about my edits on the talk page, and I did add edit captions to a couple of my reversions saying that I was attempting to HELP the article 2. I was unaware if the three revert rule BUT 3. It only came to that because you guys simply panned my edits as vandalism without so much as looking at what I had written. I'm making an effort to ensure that everything of importance that was on tha page before reamins there, I'm simply removing surpurflous information and rewording what's left. As you would have noted if you'd read my changes before you reverted them, the plot synopsis is still there, as are the facts and trivia, etc... The only thing I've really removed is the speculatory and largly inaccurate overly large breakdown of the film's events - it just seems like I removed much more beacuse that section occupied a considerable amount of space. If the consensus is that the play by play breakdown should remain, then let's re-insert it - but let's do it in clear language and without the inaccuracies.

If we're going to continue this discussion, please forward any comments to my talk page. --Flash-Gordon 10:05, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Actually, my first revert was almost automatic after almost reverting him after this (Ahwaz reverted first) - I just went through his contributions. WikiDefcon 1

Hello! FYI, the WikiDefcon 1 is reserved for really extreme cases of vandalism. If you feel that there is some increase of activity (I did a quick check with CDVF and couldn't spot it) it rather qualifies as 4. 3 and 2 are used when Wikipedia is assaulted by massive attack by automated/bot attack (such as SQUIDWARD). Finally, I don't know if level 1 (formerly known as "Overwhelming level of vandalism. Database lock recommended.") was ever legitimately called. Thus, I have reverted it back to 5. Please be careful in judging the situation in future not to cause unnecessary panic. Thank you, Misza13 T C 13:22, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I recently read your comment on Naconkantari's talk page about putting my cousins pleas to him in BJAODN, and I must say I am insulted. I believe, despite his actions, he should be treated fairly, and I believe an informal apology is in order. Trosk 00:02, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I didn't mean to insult anyone (moreover I don't understand why you feel insulted). If I did somehow, then sorry, but I found the discussion just plain hilarious. I think you should give your cousin a small lecture on "Introdution to Internet Usage" - your computer may be in danger in his incompetent hands. Cheers! Misza13 T C 10:59, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

User trolling

Hey Misza13, a couple of weeks back, you had some dealings with ROGNNTUDJUU!. At the time you warned him that his actions were borderline trolling and spamming. Well, the user is back and doing much of the same things. He deleted the comment you left on his user page: [3]. The user continues to delete comments off the talk pages at his own whim and reply to them on other talk pages if he feels like it. What kind of action do you advise from here?--Metros232 23:58, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Damn, I though this troll has given up already. As per the usual policy against trolls, I'd say ignore and just vote delete on his creations (if you care at all!). On the other hand, I'm tempted to fill an RfC on this, but then again: an RfC's purpose is to arrive at a consensus (no formal decisions are made) and I don't think ROGNNTUDJUU! is up for any consensus... I'll give a last try and direct him to Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. --Misza13 T C 10:18, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Really, I thought he had just left the project all together too. But yes, RfC had crossed my mind too, but I agree, I don't know how willing he would be to cooperate in such an action. If you start one, however, I'll support it of course.--Metros232 12:46, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Le sigh. Your posts to him were removed this morning with the edit summary: "This has been dealt with already and posting it here again is vandalism". So, congrats, you're now a vandal. How does it feel? Oy vey.--Metros232 15:54, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Stop vandalising my page

I explain on my user talk page how I deal with posts. If you do not like it, we have to agree to differ. Reverts on other users' talk pages are vandalism and I expect you to stop it. ROGNNTUDJUU! 16:09, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

By saying "we have to agree to differ" you are basically saying "f*** you - I'll do it my way". And you can't deal with posts the way you like, because: 1. the talk page doesn't belong to you and 2. there are rules on talk pages here. Misza13 T C 16:13, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
Rules about talk pages for sure do not say you should revert on other users' talk pages. I explained how I do it, I honour the rules by answering all honest questions, and now please stop your vandalism on my page. ROGNNTUDJUU! 16:27, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Club of Rome

Hello Misza

Have you done any research or do you know anything about the organization called the Club of Rome? Quite obviously the initial entry was written by The Club of Rome itself which of course would fail to mention that in fact they are an organization dedicated to reducing the population of "undesirables" such as yourself. They are one of the leading proponents of these draconian New World Order methodologies which include cold malthusian analysis and a eugenics approach to "culling" the population.

Wikipedia could be a very liberating and informative source of real information about the world around us but first it has to have completely accurate information.

Have you researched before you deleted my accurate depiction of the club of Rome?

Christopher Broder (69.113.25.112 (talk · contribs))

Well, you didn't specify any sources either (and Wikipedia is not a place for your original research). Instead, you've been adding extremely POVish statements such as this one or this one. Not to mention that edits such as [5] and [6] have no place here and definitely fall under vandalism. And BTW, (and I hope I won't regret asking) under what criterion do I fall under the "undesirables" category (not that I care about some club at all, just curious about your judgement...)? It is proper isn't it?

I do believe that my edits to Talk:Quantile are proper. Could you please comment on some sources I have compiled.

68.78.35.117 03:25, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but I see absolutely no connection between refactoring and almost completely blanking an article's talk page. That's vandalism. Misza13 T C 11:50, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
The connection is that the objection is no longer valid seeing as how it has already been taken care of for over a month now, plus the fact that the entire post was expedited by an improper edit in the first place. In my mind the very least that could be done is change it to a notice that it is a common mistake to remove it from the article (which I do not think it is). The best reason for doing it is because the discussion as a whole is overly too long for such a simple mistake. I believe that Talk pages should have some current relevance to the current article or provide guidance to those in the future who may incorrectly edit the article. (unless my views are themselves misguided) Wikipedia:Wikipedia_maintenance#Talk_pages correctly summarizes my views of using archives on talk pages; Thats not to say that archives are bad style, because they do serve a useful purpose; However, if someone has the time and is willing to put in the required effort to filter out and compress the content, while still maintaining its' usefulness to the current discussion and article, then it should be done. Thank you for you input, I appreciate your feedback on this matter. (Now I would remove the previous sentence from future archives seeing as how it is superfluous to the main discussion.) (If you would rather this discussion be moved to my talk page, I would not have a problem with it.) 68.78.35.117 15:03, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I object to blanking (as opposed to archiving) talk pages, be the matter resolved or not. As Misza correctly points out, that's regarded as vandalism. I don't doubt for a second that you are armed with good intentions, but that's just not the way it's done here.
Secondly, the section you want to remove in talk:quantile is still unresolved, so please leave it there. Thanks. PizzaMargherita 15:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for commenting. I didn't know if it's resolved or not, so an inside view is helpful. I don't see any reason for the discussion to be removed (even if it's closed) - after all, the issue may rise again in future and the archive is a good point of reference in such cases. Also, why archive at all? The page doesn't look overly bloated with topics... Misza13 T C 15:44, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I wasn't quite suggesting that it be archived at its' current state, but when it does need to be archived, it would be easier to read if it was refactored. I consider "blanking" the article to be a lazy form of refactoring seeing as how it could be reworded as an faq or frequently made mistake; However, I considered the mistake to be uncommon (just a silly oversight), thus deciding to "blank" it all together. Assuming that the subject was truly resolved by all parties, would you be ok with changing it to more of a faq form (as opposed to blanking it outright)?68.78.35.117 19:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Well that settles it; I didn't know it was still unresolved... Although I must say that too me it appears to be resolved, but in either case I'll stop the edit wars.68.78.35.117 19:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Also, about the second reference you are citing, that's definitely not how it's done here. If you fuck up change your mind about something, you should use <strike>. PizzaMargherita 15:54, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Your comments seem to be at direct odds with Refactoring. Do you agree with my interpretation? Plus this it is not a matter of changing ones mind it is about the disscussion as a whole not being relevent to the current artical. (assuming of course that it was truly resolved.) (don't leave out the <del title="reason"> tag. :-) )68.78.35.117 19:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Re: Block of User:Grue

Hmmm... Isn't 48 hours a bit too long for a "cool down" penalty? Misza13 T C 19:59, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Dear Misza13: In my opinion, no; I think 48hrs is about enough to give a proper forced protraction from the débàcle as 24hrs wouldn't really be enough to illustrate the gravity of why Wikipedia:Civility is necessary practice. I'd have agreed if the behaviour was less focused towards a particular debate, but in this case the temperature has got so hot that really a slightly longer block is the only solution. Status script.

I've noticed your status switcher script and it's much better than the one I use. I can't even remember who gave me the script I'm using now.

Anyway, there are some problems with the one I'm using now (the option to change the status is only seen on the watchlist or when I edit a page). I'm wondering if yours can somehow be adapted to use the scheme I'm using now (see User:nathanrdotcom/Status and User:nathanrdotcom/StatusDiv), with the status located where it is.

Any thoughts? — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 16:10, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Status script isnt working

I cant get the status script to work. I pasted the second script on that page into my monobook.js file, and I created the StatusTemplate thing, with the first section of code in it. It wont work though. Do you know what is wrong? Wikipeedio 20:58, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Not sure, especially because you changed the original function. Didn't it work in my version? Also, this line:
if (location.href.indexOf("User:Wikipeedio+"subpage"+&action=edit&newstatus=") == -1) return;
should rather read (note the placement of "s and +s):
if (location.href.indexOf("User:Wikipeedio"+subpage+"&action=edit&newstatus=") == -1) return;
otherwise, I'm not sure whether it will compile at all. Also, check whether the buttons link where they should. The "in" for example should link to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Wikipeedio/Status&action=edit&newstatus=in Misza13 T C 10:07, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Oops, my bad. I forgot to bypass the cache by doing the CTRL+F5 thing. I fixed that one line, I didn't do it very carefully. It works now. Thanks for your help. Wikipeedio 15:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Perl Framework ??

I'd be interested in sharing notes or code. I am only reading, not writing, in my code so far, but I based my WP access code on User:Pearle code... what I have so far is at User:Lar/ClassificationTableGen (that code is a bit backlevel, it doesn't include any access code, but shows my direction) ++Lar: t/c 23:01, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

My code doesn't do anything terrific yet. It uses LWP::UserAgent to check out pages, then parses the HTML::Response to get the editing form as HTML::Form object. Then the user modifies the form's properties and UserAgent sumbits using $form->click. The biggest problem is writing error handling (which is modest yet). Wikipedia can generate an amazing multitude of errors. I plan to publish the module (Where has seen a draft of it) once it is more reliable. Misza13 T C 10:13, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
So you're not using the trick Pearle uses then of just finding the form box and stripping everything else away? That way seems to be a more text processing based approach than using the Form object. What errors are you running into? I haven't seen many yet. Interesting. I'll be keen to see what you've got once you're ready. Meanwhile I need to put up the module I made out of Beland's code which strips away all the command processing loops and leaves just the routines to get and put pages.. ++Lar: t/c 14:09, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Actually this is what HTML::Form does: [8]
@forms = HTML::Form->parse( $response )
It parses a HTML::Response (received from UserAgent), extracts all forms and returns them as objects in the @forms array. The errors are pure Wikipedia caused ones:
  • After sumbitting the form, the response is usually a HTML 302 redirect. Sometimes it is not.
  • There might be edit conflicts (so far I avoid them through "&section=new" editing).
  • "Wikipedia has a problem", "You have been blocked" (in the case of bots).
Above all this, I have yet no mechanism that would verify if the edit succeeded despite errors. One could check the page history, but databese lags may prove it ineffective. I've also been thinking about connecting it to the IRC recent changes feed... (Which I do myself whenever the bot is doing the spamming.) Really, these are mostly ideas that yet need to be checked for viability. Misza13 T C 16:08, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining that. I did not realise you could use parse that way... "I am only an egg", but I would love to collaborate with you... As soon as I have my code to where I am happy, I'll come back here and leave you a link to the pages and would welcome your comments! ++Lar: t/c 16:15, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I thought removing "User Wikipedia" excludes userpages from the category, but perhaps I am mistaken. Care to clarify?--The ikiroid (talk/parler/hablar/paroli/说/話) 18:26, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, I've put the User:Ikiroid/PimpMyPage template on my user page as a test and it showed up in Category:Wikipedians in need of a better Userpage. So does FireFox's talk page. The new category name is shorter and better IMHO, so I guess there's no issue here. Misza13 T C 18:40, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Comments and hurt feelings

I'm sorry but I cann't assume good faith in most of your comments in WT:ESP#Channel stats and I'm blanking them because they are not helping the conversation. Please do not restore them.

Basically the conversation went: you: "i support" <- now that was fine. it was neutrally worded and I didn't delete it

...then later...

you: "You need to grow up"
me: "NPA. Attacks aren't helping."
you: "Oh, I wasn't intending to attack you. Besides, you need to stop being childish" (that's two attacks, and one after I told you NPA. A non-constructive comment regarding my actions is still an attack)

As a fellow Wikipedian, you should know how your words can have an effect on others. Insulting the author of an idea instead of commenting on the idea itself is not constructive and hurts feelings.

WP:NPA is a policy for everyone, not just for you to break when you feel like it (then claim you weren't out to attack, then attack again to add insult to injury).

We've gotten along just fine until now, I don't know why you'd all of a sudden do this. It makes me sad & hurt. Quite honestly, there's a time and place for such comments and posting them in the middle of an idea proposal/vote isn't the right time or place.

I have a certain way I deal with problems based on personal experience. While it may not be the most ideal way, it works for me. (When I'm backed into a corner or there's more conflict than I know how to deal with, I leave) I'd appreciate not being called immature just because you don't agree with my problemsolving methods (or that my intent wasn't made clear). While you may not agree with the method I use to deal with conflicts, it doesn't give you the right to attack me because of it.

For the record and to clarify: I didn't leave because I wasn't getting what I wanted. I left because I needed some space. If you're not sure of my intentions, please ask (I won't consider it an offense) and I'll tell you. I'm pretty sure you know the old saying about making assumptions so I don't need to type it here.

Let's try to get along here, please? We're fellow Esperanzians and I don't see the reason why either of us should be attacking the other. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

As the idea of you guys engaging in verbal conflict frightens me, I just wanted to step in and say, don't take it further. Misza, if you respond to Nathan, don't apologize and antagonize at the same time. Nathan, see if maybe you accidentally hurt Misza or did something to provoke this. Just don't kill each other. _-M o P-_ 22:22, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
IMO, I did nothing to cause this. My way of dealing with too much conflict (which is leave the channel and try to process the events quietly, then come back when I'm less upset. In my own personal experience, that's the method that works for me, it's a protection mechanism. I have a lot of protection mechanisms) isn't a reason to insult me. We all have our own ways of dealing with conflict, that needs to be respected even though we may not agree with them.
You can see the comments that were deleted here (hmm, okay the first one was constructive [which I've just restored], the second was not) and here.
MoP: I appreciate your comment. It's very much needed. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:27, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, but you two are friends. Better to stop then go down in a fiery wreckage. I agree that we all have personal ways of calming down; when I get a bit angry, I eat ice cream to get better. Well, perhaps Misza just got annoyed and thought that you were running away from the problem; hopefully, its just a small misunderstanding. But you did well to address the issue like a civil person, Nathan, so kudos for that. _-M o P-_ 22:32, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
I'd like to think we're friends. I don't know what I'm supposed to think now. Admittedly, I was "running away from the problem" but not just for the sake of running away. I needed space. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:38, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
From what I can see, Misza was a bit frustrated; he didn't understand that you weren't leaving for good (I think). I only read the two links that you posted, and it seems this way. However, it should be alright when Misza gets back. _-M o P-_ 22:43, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
I was leaving until I could find a better way to deal with the issues (I needed the time to calm down). I eventually talked to Where about it and we worked to deal with the issues addressed by the AC. If I had an "Advisory Council Complicated English to English" dictionary, it would solve most of the issues. If he wasn't sure why I was leaving the situation, he should've asked me what my intent was, instead of jumping to the conclusion that I was being "immature" and "childish". — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:49, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, we all have our bad days; maybe he was just having one. But I agree, you reserve the right to get your private space; hopefully it doesn't happen in the future. _-M o P-_ 23:10, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Help needed with status changer javascript

I use a slightly-modified version of your status changer as follows:

// STATUS CHANGER
addOnloadHook(function (){
 var user = document.getElementById( 'pt-userpage' ).firstChild.firstChild.data;
 var subpage = "/status";
 var scheme = "/statustemplate";
 var linkprefix = "http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:";
 var contribs = document.getElementById( 'pt-mycontris' );
 //Add the links
 addlilink(contribs, linkprefix+user+subpage+"&action=edit&newstatus=in", "In", "pt-status-in", "I'm in!", "");
 addlilink(contribs, linkprefix+user+subpage+"&action=edit&newstatus=busy", "Busy", "pt-status-busy", "I'm busy!", "");
 addlilink(contribs, linkprefix+user+subpage+"&action=edit&newstatus=out", "Out", "pt-status-out", "I'm out!", "");
 if (location.href.indexOf("User:"+user+subpage+";&action=edit&newstatus=") == -1) return; //Are we here to auto-edit the status?
 //Get new status
 status = location.href.split("=");
 status = status[status.length-1];
 //Modify the form
 document.getElementById('wpTextbox1').value = "User:"+user+scheme+"";
 document.getElementById('wpSummary').value = "Status: "+status;
 document.getElementById('wpMinoredit').checked = 'checked';
 //Submit it!
 document.getElementById('editform').submit();
});

However when I click on the "in", "busy" or "out" links, it only loads the edit window for my status page and just stops there. It doesn't change the text and autosave. I'm using Opera 9 (and IE7 beta occasionally), if that matters.

Hope you can help me figure out this one. Or if you can't help me, please point me to someone who knows how all this works. Thanks a lot! :-) Kimchi.sg | talk 01:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Followup to what we said over IRC: The script actually relies on the same case as the actual subpage name. Thus I kept the "/status" and "/statustemplate" in the script as well as the subpage names. It was the &amp;quot; and the extra ; that broke the script. It's working perfectly now. Thanks! :-) :-) :-) Kimchi.sg | talk 16:14, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

User:Misza13/CURRENTMINUTEOFDAY

Saw your reply on Cyde's talk page (never took it off watch after leaving a message there some time ago), and wondered if you'd thought about using {{#expr:{{CURRENTHOUR}}*60+{{CURRENTMINUTE}}}}? Still painful calling on {{CURRENTHOUR}} and {{CURRENTMINUTE}} but... Jude (talk,contribs,email) 12:29, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Did you check out the content of {{CURRENTHOUR}} and {{CURRENTMINUTE}}? They're both huge #switches (actually series of #ifeq's but anyway...), so using them both would be an even greater strain on the servers. The Devs should invent some string-handling functions and that would solve the problem. Misza13 T C 12:36, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Edit to User Talk:Quentin Smith

I saw this edit. Why did you change it from {{PAGENAME}} to {{PAGENAMEE}}? --—Preceding unsigned comment added by GeorgeMoney (talkcontribs)

Please remember to sign your posts. I changed that to fix the link to creating a new talk section. The {{PAGENAMEE}} parameter substitutes spaces with underscores. Without it, there was a space in the URL to new message, so the [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Quentin Smith&action=edit&section=new by clicking here] was incorrectly split into URL & link text parts after "Quentin" instead of "section=new" and thus didn't work. Why?

Why do you insist on restarting the userbox wars? Thats what your policy will do. ILovEPlankton 18:48, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

For one thing, the userbox wars are far from over. For second, unless one uniform policy regarding them is established, they will continue. My project aims as cutting it once and for all. No more WP:DRV/U, simply because the community says no to political/religious/etc userboxes in Template: namespace. No more TfD's on them, because they're (with few useful exceptions) no longer templates. I hope that clarifies and thank you for your attention on this matter. I'd like the policy reviewed before putting it officially for discussion. Also, I'd like further matters discussed on the policy's talk page, for the sake of greater visibility. Misza13 T C 19:00, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok you got me, the wars aren't over. We do need a uniform policy, and If you don't mind I would like to discuss the policy further on it's talk page. ILovEPlankton 20:27, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I think it's good. Instead of having things like This user hates topic X or This user loves topic X you can just make a userbox that says This user is interested in topic X.--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 22:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

A public appeal to stop the fighting.

I am not your enemy and I'd like you to stop attacking me so that we can resolve this like adults. Think about what you're doing: We've been friends here for a while. We've helped each other out, been kind to each other, is this really the route you want to go?

However, if you keep attacking me, I'll have no choice but to ask for a block on you. WP:NPA is a policy of this site, and cannot be blatantly disregarded whenever you feel like it.

Please consider what you're doing. It's wrong to attack others. Please realize that the other person in a conflict has thoughts and feelings, even if you can't see them. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 17:30, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

There's incivility on both sides. Computerjoe's talk 17:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
He was incivil before and apologised. Now he's incivil again. A second apology will mean nothing (if he's really sorry, he wouldn't have been incivil after having apologised for being incivil some weeks ago. An apology is supposed to mean something). However, if he admits he made a mistake, that's some progress. But how will I know he won't fall back into the same pattern of attacking again and do it a third time? His word is meaningless to me now. (I realize Wikipedia is not a crystal ball). — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 17:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Threatening for blocks to be made is not the way to go. Ian13/talk 21:08, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

After the above ("His word is meaningless to me now.") and after being threatened on IRC, I see no reason why I should assume good faith on Nathan's side and attempt further mediation. I also don't know why out of the entrire Esperanza I am being singled out as his greatest enemy. But, as follows my previous statement, I don't want to know. Misza13 T C 17:46, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

Hi, couldn't help but notice you've been voting delete on a lot of userbox review templates. Not trying to votestack, but what gives? Regards, --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 11:59, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, if you take a look at the "New messages" trick above and actually follow the link, things should become clearer. What I'd like to have is a policy that governs the userboxes and prevents the waste of Template: space for generally unhelpful (to the Project) stuff. If it looks the same before and after subst:, then why don't do it and help the servers? I noticed a similar policy being written by expansion of WP:CSD. Did you notice T2? That's some new stuff. Misza13 T C 12:07, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that T2 is taking no prisoners. That's why I backed out the userbox debates. Your proposed policy looks good, I'll definitely support it when voting begins. --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 12:47, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

"Near-native", huh? I'm flattered. :) I had my first contact with the language at the age of six and have been learning it ever since. But in fact, it's not that brilliant as it seems. The impression you get is created by a simple trick: I use Simple English (or, what I call it, "Internet English") - no complicated grammar structures, "difficult" words and such. If I started using them, I would get lost quickly and started making hideous mistakes. But thanks anyway. Oh, and there is no {{user en-3.5}}. ;-) Misza13 T C 09:43, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Hmm...it doesn't seem like simple english to me, you write better than most middle-class midwestern Americans that I know. I've heard that if you begin learning a language before the teenage years it's easier to master, which may explain it. So what do you try to avoid writing? Passive voice? I'd be interested to know, I'm trying to learn French and Mandarin chinese, and I think passive voice is the hardest thing about a language.-- The ikiroid  14:56, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Passive voice is not avoided by me - it's only found sounding very "yodish" at times by me, no? ;-p I also didn't find it especially difficult, but then again, maybe it's a matter of thinking patterns and predispositions, which vary from man to man. And yes, learning "from the cradle" does help a lot - if not the very poor vocabulary, I could consider myself bilingual (actually I even studied in a "bilingual" class in the high school). With languages learned later in life (like german, russian or french), I have much more problems. The situation is on the other hand completely different when it comes to new programming languages, which I usually learn like blitz. Misza13 T C 15:25, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Ah, so I see. It's always good to hear the viewpoint of another person learning language. Thanks ;).-- The ikiroid  15:48, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

^demon's sig

Could you explain that ~~~ business? That will print his name, yes, but the thing we're getting at is making the date slightly smaller. Who's misunderstanding who here? xD Thanks! --Xyrael T 12:31, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

The thing is, that ~~~ puts the content of the "Nickname" field in Special:Preferences. ~~~~ puts that and the date (unformatted). So, if you put {{subst:User:Whatever/sig}} there and the template will contain the date trick (like ^demon's does), then it's enough to sign with 3 tildes, as 4 tildes would put that and the date (I feel like repeating myself :-P), which would result in two dates being written (one from the template and one from the fourth tilde). Oh my! That was supposed to be an explanation, but reading this, I'm not sure I'd fully understand it... Misza13 T C 13:50, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I get what you mean now, and I've given it a shot. However, templates never work in raw signatures, or so I've discovered. It doesn't work :( Any other ideas? Thanks for trying! --Xyrael T 12:47, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay, so it does! Wow! However, I can't use this with VandalProof and the like because these automatically use which stops me as it'll display the date twice, unfortunately. --Xyrael T 12:50, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
I've been wondering that for awhile now. I meant to log it with Daniel to see if he could work a way into the next release for custom sigs, but I just hadn't gotten around to it and I did. That's the only major issue I have with using VP right now. ^demon[yell at me][ubx_war_sux] /19:21, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Hole in the wall

Hello. I noticed that you recently welcomed User:Hole in the wall to Esperanza [10]. However, please note that that user's account was only created on June 3 and that he/she only has about 47 edits in all as of 00:20, 5 June 2006 (UTC). That does not meet the requirements for membership, so be sure to check the users before welcoming them. Thanks. G.He 00:20, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

In short: take a look at this edit and 2 subsequent ones, plus the top of the Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Members#Putting the 'green' letters in signature post. I trusted Joanne's judgement. Cheers! Misza13 T C 12:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

It's early July, now

Unless someone else has got there first, would you accept a nomination for adminship from me? You may prefer someone else to nominate you; if this is the case I won't be offended - just let me know :) --Xyrael T 11:30, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Sincere apologies - I'm getting too enthusiastic about the presence of the end of the school year and getting month names mixed up. :S --Xyrael T 11:32, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, for me it is exactly one more month of tortures to go - hence the estimated July. Not that I'm sure I'll have more time there... And yes, I'd prefer being nominated by an admin. So, if you still have chance, since (one week of RfA) < (one month). ;-) But thanks anyway. :-) Misza13 T C 12:14, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

WP:Trusted Users MfD

Hi,

As you should know, only administrators may close XfDs, unless the decision is completely without controversy (ie. unanimous, or very close to that.) You closed this MfD prematurely. In my judgment, it is not without some controversy, as there are several outright delete votes. I have reopened the discussion. Please refrain from closing controversial XfDs until you gain adminship. Best wishes, Xoloz 00:05, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, for me it looked like almost all votes were either keep with {{rejected}} or delete, which I believe should mean "reject" in the case of proposals as well. Additionally, Xaosflux already tagged it as such, so I considered my closing more of a janitorial work than an actual decision (yeah, I admit, I forgot to take the MfD tag down along). But if you say so, I won't touch XfDs again. Misza13 T C 07:55, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound too harsh! :) (I have a very nasty cold, and may be snappier than I think I am.) I'm sure you'll be an admin soon enough -- it's just that, that particular discussion had too many delete votes to be closed early by anybody (IMO), much less a non-admin. Best wishes, Xoloz 17:36, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

IRC linking

Sorry for making a mistake on Bob's page. Under mIRC, I'm told (I don't use it) that without a hash it adds one, so for a double hash you use two. --Xyrael T 12:01, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Bot code?

Hello , Misza13. What code does your bot run on? May I know where to download the program?-- 贡献 CCD Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 09:52, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I have written him in Perl. Entirely from scratch, i.e. from the sockets through the IRC protocol up to the entertainment functions. It's not available for download yet, but when the codebase becomes stable and I clean the code up, I'll release it. If you're still interested, I could probably send it to you via e-mail or something (once I finally tag the files with proper licenses). Misza13 T C 16:39, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Archiving bot

Sweetness! :) :) :)

Is this service open to the public yet? -- Where is Where? 21:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

It stiil needs some ironing, like adding config files (with any custom archiving schemes possible). I also have to do something with this - the bot leaves some unnecessary newlines on the talk - apparently, blanking a section (the bot does &action=edit&section=1 and determines if a section qualifies for archive) does not wipe it out entirely - a newline is still left. It should be ready soon tho - interested? :-D Misza13 T C 09:37, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

A bit of a problem with your status-switcher script

I seem to have run into a dead end with your status-switcher script. I copied the script exactly as shown here into my monobook.js file. I borrowed the design of User:Gurch's Status and StatusTemplate files, modifying Status to link to my StatusTemplate. However, when I click on "in," "busy," and "out," I always get
{{User:Super-Magician/StatusTemplate|undefined}}
saved in my Status template. I believe I already have the Add LI link script installed because I installed User:Voice_of_All's non-admin Recent changes script (includes a UTC clock, which is essentially an added link).

I would appreciate any help you could give. — Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 19:16, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

That's a weird error. Two questions that can lead me to solution:
  1. What's the browser you're using?
  2. What's the exact URL the "in" (for example) button leads to?
  3. Is the URL the same as what appears in the adress bar moments before the status gets saved.
Yes, I know the last question looks silly, but I'm investigating all kinds of possibilities (like the other included scripts modifying the address for some reason). Misza13 T C 19:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response.
  1. Internet Explorer 6 (SP1) on Windows 2000 (SP4) (I can try it using IE 6 on a Windows XP SP2 system, but I doubt it would make any difference)
  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Super-Magician/Status&action=edit&newstatus=in
  3. Yes.
By asking me #1, could you be hinting that I must use Mozilla Firefox? And, by the way, that was three questions.
Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 20:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay, so now I know where in the code the problem is located, but still not sure why it doesn't work. I did a minor update to User:Misza13/Scripts/Status switcher. Reinstall/copy again (remember WP:CACHE) and try again - does same thing but in a different way. Yeah, it was 2 questions when I started writing it, but thought of the 3rd later. And yes, using Firefox is surely a good idea. :-D Misza13 T C 20:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
All right, after that update, it works! Yes!! Thanks so much!! :D — Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 21:02, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Good to see that. Way to go, me! World saved again! Ehem... Note to self: stupid IE probably doesn't handle the .split() method. Regular expressions work fine. Misza13 T C 21:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

more care when reverting, please

I was aware that that was wrong because I had only just fixed that error myself (in between the vandalism) but a quick revert with that in it was not a problem as that text was hidden you then nipped in before me to fix the last bit. Jooler 12:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the stub sorting

WOW!!! You are a super coder :D. Yeah; adding stubs manually probably isn't such a good idea. What could be done, however, is writing a perl script to fetch the stubs page, parse it, write the script, and dump it (using your perl framework) to User:Misza13/ss.js. This page can then be included in monobook.js. Also, for this to fit the screen, maybe the menu should start somewhere else further to the left (like in the toolbox?). Just suggestions, of course. -- Where is Where? 14:18, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Damn n00bs.

Status changer

Hi. I was putting up your status changer, but I can't seem to get it to work! I copied the following code:

'''<div style="border: 1px solid black; background: white; float: right; position: relative; top: -30px; padding: 5px">Example's status: {{ #switch: {{{1}}}
 | in=<span style="color: green;">IN</span>
 | busy=<span style="color: #FFAA00;">BUSY</span>
 | out=<span style="color: red;">OUT</span>
}}
</div>'''

onto this page, and I placed {{User:Oreos/StatusTemplate|STATUS}} onto this page. I installed Add LI link onto my monobook.js as well as the function you provided, but the 'in' 'busy' and 'out' functions don't appear. Any idea why? ØřêōşGo Italia! 19:09, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Weird. I have copied your monobook to mine and it works fine (i.e. they show up). Did you purge the cache of your browser? Or maybe you didn't notice them? They should be to the left of the "logout" button. Misza13 T C 19:29, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Call for consensus on fan site list on Andy Murray page

Hello Misza13,

You've probably noticed my (probably foolhardy) attempt to resolve the edit war on the Andy Murray page regarding fansites. The protagonists do not look about to resolve it among themselves, so I'd appreciate it if you and other regular editors could express your views on this part of the page, so that we can stop the war going forward, or at least block a protagonist who persists in it. Please come to the talk page here

The questions I've put are:

Please can I have the opinions of those who regularly edit this site:

1.Should there be a list of fansites?

2.Should it be ordered

a) alphabetically
b) by site's popularity or quality
c) by some other factor

3. If by popularity/quality how to judge this?

Thanks RobbieC 21:10, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Misza13, I'm really glad that you not only are now an admin, but you're also in WP:100! Seeing as you'll be needing them, why not choose from this fine selection of mops? I'm sure you'll continue to be as great an admin as you are a user. Cheers, Thε Halo Θ 09:51, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Congrats and, perhaps, an apology.

My heartiest congratulations on a successful candidacy! My only regret is that it appears that my asking you the questions I did set off that user's diatribe which marred your perfect unopposed record. I do apologise for that (but won't stop asking the question, it's a good one...) All the best of luck and I look forward to working with you more! ++Lar: t/c 12:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I also regret that my RfA didn't finish spotless, but I don't blame you. That was indeed a very good question and some user's reaction is certainly not your fault. I believe it does take some time to understand that WikiPolitics and what you name them doesn't really matter, but rather the goal itself. Happy editing! Misza13 T C 13:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Congrats on your RfA

I now realise that I shouldn't have supported at your RfA. As Shannon says, the fact that so many people support you clearly shows that you are not suitable for adminship. --David Mestel(Talk) 16:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Could you please explain what in the world has the ammount of support votes to do with suitability for adminship? This is just beyond my understanding... Misza13 T C 16:34, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
I think that he felt that the large number of supports showed that you had rigged the RfA. However, given the large number of entries on WP:100, this is patently false. --David Mestel(Talk) 17:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

typo

congrats on becoming an admin and thx for the thank you note, thought i'd mention there's a typo in it... the word "to" is missing in the first few words: "Thank you for contributing the impressive the pile of supports" Themindset 16:57, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. That's not the only error in the message though. But it's also loaded with pranks of some kinds. ;-) Misza13 T C 17:00, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Another typo ... you didn't get the support/oppose vote count correct. You used 0x, implying hexadecimal, but the number you gave in hexadecimal doesn't even come close to matching the actual number of support votes you got ... Cyde↔Weys 17:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

That's exactly what I had in mind above. When the RfA was about to close, it was 127 and then I made the error, writing 0xFF instead 0x7F when composing it. Then 5 more votes came in and you can figure the 0x0104 now. :) Misza13 T C 17:42, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Protection

A few pointers:

  • The article featured on the Main Page should not be protected. Many edits (and much vandalism) is to be expected, and protection is not the answer. Although opinions on this do vary, the consensus on Wikipedia:Protection policy is that we benefit more from people being able to edit these articles than we suffer from having them vandalized (past history consistently shows articles improving from their exposure on the Main Page, even if it also takes continuous reverting of vandalism).
  • If you do protect an article, please follow the guidelines at Wikipedia:Protection policy. In particular, add the page to the list of protected pages specifying a reason, and place the appropriate protection template at the top of the article. This helps editors to recognize what's going on, and it allows the wikignomes to find and unprotect pages that have been protected for too long.

Protection is a powerful tool; use it sparingly. It makes our lives easier, but that's not its primary purpose. JRM · Talk 21:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Cryptography was getting a hard beating for the last few hours with no good edits in sight (FA articles don't need much innovative edits anyway). I also didn't put the {{sprotected}} template, because it's too ugly for a Main Page article. (A pretty of a dilemma here, huh?) But thanks for the guidelines. I'll keep them in mind and will "revert till doomsday". ;-) Misza13 T C 21:56, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
The guideline isn't really what the ratio of good to bad edits is (because if that were the case, countless pages that are rarely edited would "deserve" protection), but how much trouble we have keeping up with them. The Main Page article will get hammered by vandals hard, but it will also be closely watched by the RC patrollers. When the smoke clears, the article is usually no worse for the wear, and has typically picked up a few improvements from casually visiting experts (yes, we get those too, not just 12-year-olds making asses of themselves :-) that our regular contributors simply missed. That "FA articles don't need much innovative edits" is quite correct, but nobody is asking for "innovative" edits. Any good edit will do! Don't think that a featured article is "finished"—it's a little more stable than a non-featured article, but that's all. FAs can be and are regularly improved, sometimes quite drastically (don't take my word for it; watch some for a longer time).
Basically, though, you can think of it as a PR issue. We advertise as "the free encyclopedia anyone can edit". Imagine new editors going to the first article they see, and finding out they can't edit it... Being "the free encyclopedia anyone can edit, if not too many people are actually doing it, because then we can't really be bothered to keep things in shape" doesn't sound half as impressive (and worse, it will make people think that Wikipedia doesn't work after all, since we apparently can't handle vandalism). Keeping the featured article unprotected is a kind of public service, one that we've had no trouble providing in the past. JRM · Talk 22:19, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I stole your RFA box

Hi, Misza13. I have an RFA that will close soon, so I took the liberty of using your html box as my thank you note because I can't code HTML to save my life. I hope you don't mind. Just for reference, here's the box I created:

Thank you so much for voting in my recent RFA. It passed on the relatively narrown vote of 36/8/7. It was also one of the least-participated-in RFA nominations in several months, so pat yourself on the back, and join the party on your left, but first, take your cookie!

NOTE: I can't code HTML to save my life. I copied this from Misza13. I guess I should write him a thank you note as well. Cookies sold separately. Batteries not included. Offer not valid with other coupons. May contain peanuts or chicken. Keep out of the reach of small children, may present a choking hazard to children under the age of 3. Do not take with alcohol. This notice has a dark background and therefore may be eaten by a grue at any time. The receiver of this message, hereafter referred to as "Pudding Head" relinquishes all rights and abilities to file a lawsuit or any other litigious activities. RyanGerbil10, Jimbo Wales, and the states of Georgia, North Dakota and Wisconsin are not liable for any lost or stolen items or damage from errant shopping carts.

I hope it does your excellent sense of humor justice. Cheers, RyanGerbil10 (Drop on in!) 05:43, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

On blocking users

Hi, the next time you block a user, could you remember to leave a note on their talk page telling them (and others) why? It's helpful documentation for both the blocked user and other admins. --Improv 20:37, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Which user in particular do you mean? I thought I did leave tags either on talks (in case of IPs - unless it's a 15' AOL block) or on User: (in the case of indef vandals-only accounts). If I have missed some though, I'll be more thorough then. Misza13 T C 20:43, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
  • My apologies. In digging through the user's talk page, I found the warning -- it was up higher than I thought it was due to considerable talk since. Take care. --Improv 04:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Please take care blocking User:Stefanalexei. It's an AOL dynamic ISP, so blocks should be kept very short (I've been blocked as collateral damage six times already today on this address. jimfbleak 12:11, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

The problem with blocking users is that when a username is blocked, the IP behind it is autoblocked, and for privacy reasons we as administrators are not given the IP address so we can manually unblock it seperately. If you report the block # (it'll say #1246432 or something) and request that # unblocked, we can do that seperately. Thank you for your understanding. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 03:07, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I have created a subpage on WP:LTA about the Kitten Vandal, after enquiring on the talk page, and feeling that it would be easier for users and admins to act if a MO and actions were listed. template migration

I don't think germanizing the template has anything to do with closing it's TfD discussion. All you need is a user willing to adopt it and someone to substitute all instances with the userfied version. Then you can notify me and I'll delete the unused {{User System Administrator}}. Hi

I noticed you're an admin, and you're currently online. Could you help me move User:Chacor/Sandbox/Ewiniar 0603 to Typhoon Ewiniar (2006) over the redirect that is currently at the target article? (A move of the talk page is not required) Thank you! Chacor 10:44, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Done. I didn't touch the talk pages - if there's any info you want to salvage, you can just copy it yourself. Also, let me know if you want your "workshop" (now a redirect to the article) or it's talk deleted. Misza13 T C 10:55, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

If you could be so kind as to tag his sockpuppets' user pages with the "BB" or "Bobby" tags from now on, that would be great. Thanks again! Dr Chatterjee 17:50, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Will do. My monobook auto-tagging script is getting overloaded with all those tags, though. Misza13 T C 20:24, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Newsletter spammage

Hey there, Misza13! Are you still willing to use MiszaBot to send the Esperanza newsletter to all the Esperanzians? That would be most lovely; there should be a newsletter in the next day or two, and I wanted to check and see if you could still take of sending it out. Many thanks! -- Natalya 15:42, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Sure. Just signal me (via IRC would be best, if you catch me this evening) that's it's ready, where is it (like, User:Natalya/Sandbox) and what's the ==message header==. I'll take care of the rest. If not today then tommorow. Misza13 T C 18:29, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks! I'll let you know when it's ready. -- Natalya 00:22, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

One more question: we'd like to partially implement the opt-out list for the newsletter, so that if people don't want to recieve the entire newsletter, they can receive a link to it. Where is the most convinient location for you for us to have this list? Is there any particular way to format this list to make it easy for you? Thanks again, -- Natalya 02:12, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Makes no great difference to me. I'm using programs to parse the lists anyway, so I can adapt to whatever format you choose. Put it on whatever page you want, one user per line, be it with {{user}}, plain [[brackets]], whatever. It is the software that should adapt to our needs, not the other way round. :) Misza13 T C 10:02, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Great, thanks so much! :) The newsletter is ready to go out, it's located at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter (also at User:Natalya/Draft if you need it in the userspace). The message header can be "August Esperanza Newsletter".
For the future, the opt-out list (currently empty, so not applying to this newsletter) is located at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List. Everyone there will just get a link to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter instead.
Thanks again! Your help is much appreciated. -- Natalya 15:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Status Switcher

Hi. I just would like to say great job on your user page! I was your Esperanza User Page award. Anyway, when I saw your page, I came across your Status switcher script. I tried using it on my page (sorry for not telling you), and it didn't work somehow. Can you help me? The pages I was instructed to create are here:

--Edtalk c E 21:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

You don't have to be sorry - that's why I created it. :) And thanks for chosing my page. Anyway, to figure out why doesn't it work, I'll need more info. Specifically, let's start with this: do the status links show up? These should be 3 links named "in", "busy" and "out" that show up in the upper right corner of the screen (besides the "log out" link). Misza13 T C 21:51, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
No additional links show up, and everything I did is in the three links above. Do the pages look right?--Edtalk c E 21:56, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I think I got it. You forgot to add the addlilink() function to your .js. Being an admin, I have taken the liberty to invade your monobook and fix that myself. Try purging your cache and see if it works. Misza13 T C 22:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Please fix your newsletter spamming system

It doesn't make much sense to deliver the newsletter to indefinitely banned users. --Cyde Weys 03:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Good point. However, the list I base the spam on is WP:ESP/M - if it's not up-to-date, it's not really my fault. And neither is Karmafist categorized as banned, so I can't even cross-check the list with anything. And going through it item by item manually would beat the whole point of using a bot, now wouldn't it? Any other ideas? Misza13 T C 17:01, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

WdefconBot

WdefconBot added a bunch of gibberish to the the Wdefcon template. Could it be a bug, or maybe someone on IRC made a mistake?--1568 03:50, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

It's a bug in my old IRC bot framework which sometimes causes lines received from the server to glue up. Given the bot's low activity, it's also an extremely rare one. An extra reading buffer should fix it... Misza13 T C 17:07, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Dear Admin,

I am a sockpuppet of user:Crisspy. I will agree to stop vandalising wikipedia under any new accounts, on the conditions of:

  • You put user:Crisspy and user:1028 on a long term abuse page.
  • You do not give away the physical location and/or IP adress of either of these accounts.
  • You distinguish that user:1028 and user:Crisspy were different people vandalising together.
  • You do not make any records of this message and you delete it as soon as possible.

If you do this, I will agree to stop vandalising as I have said before. If I do, you may block me indefinitely.

You were blocked by Misza13 for the following reason (see our blocking policy): Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "DCC SEND HELLOANDWELCOMETOLOLTOW„ 0 0 0". The reason given for DCC SEND HELLOANDWELCOMETOLOLTOW„ 0 0 0's block is Your IP address is 205.188.116.200.

You are not blocked from reading pages, only from editing them. If you were only intending to read a page and are seeing this message, you probably followed a red link. These are links to pages that do not exist, so they take users to an editing screen. You should have no problem if you follow only blue links.

If you would like to know when the block will expire, please search for your name or IP on the block list.

If the reason given is "username", "user...", or "contact an administrator for verification purposes", then you or someone with whom you share an IP address has most likely been blocked for choosing an inappropriate or suspicious username. User:I took a Poop

Hi. Is there any reason to create a userpage and tag a nil-edit blocked account? The block logs shows the block - the name is obviously going to be blocked. In this case it seems pointless (although harmless) but stuff like this is encouraging people to tag nil-edit accounts with speculative tags categorizing by who might be creating it - and that justs to glorify the vandal. My ethos is block and forget - as the only way we'll drive these people away is to bore them by ignoring them. Just some thoughts... --Doc 22:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

It's just that this tagging is a long tradition on Wikipedia. I my early days as an admin I was even poked when I didn't do so; thus I figured out there's a general consensus for this practice. But since you point it out, I'll give it a thought. Misza13 22:22, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
It's good to tag a user with edits (especially if some are good)- in case someone follows an edit looking for the user. But the whole criminology ethos of taging and categorising vandals is increasingly being seen by experienced admins as at best useless and probably counter-productive. We've even had some users going around taging things just to up their edi count (groan). Anyway thanks for thinking. --Doc 22:43, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

WDefcon

It'd probably be best if it had no default. The default bit is just a convienence. Some people apparently think this is a userbox, when itself is not. Kevin_b_er 19:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

The default one doesn't look like a userbox at all to me. But anyway, what do you propose? A blank one? Misza13 19:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually. A better idea would be that the template not transclude unless a parameter is given. Since some may, I suppose, use the default one like a userbox. Personally I just glance at it on my watchlist to see if stupid stuff has happened (like some nutjob using aol proxy servers) that I know is likely not fully cleaned up. But since {{wdefcon}} could be used like a userbox, we could at least prevent that. If people want to make a userbox out of it(as a few have by putting it into a tiny box), they can use userpages to do it. Kevin_b_er 19:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I'm very fine, thanks. Not much can be done really, at least in my opinion. The Bounty board is an informal thing, so it's really a question of ethics. I guess you could query Marudubshinki directly. Misza13 17:21, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Status Changer

Err... Yeah I'm having some problems getting the status changer to work. I did everything the page said. Can you help me? (and if you ask to edit/create new pages, the answer is yes as long as you don't vandalize) Thanks in advance, ҈Đǣţĥ ɱøťőŕ 23:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I tried it myself and it seems to work. Did the said buttons (in/busy/out) appear to the left of the "log out" button (upper right corner of the screen)? If not, you might need to bypass your browser's cache. If yes, what happens when you click one? Misza13 07:48, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I fixed it and it shows the 3 extra links, but when I click on them, it replaces the text after the | with nothing, rendering it blank. I tried this for all the links and they all produced the same result.--҈Đǣţĥ ɱøťőŕ 14:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
A very strange behavior. What does the address bar read after clicking one of the 3 links? And does it click the "Save" button automatically? Finally, what browser are you using? Misza13 18:06, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
First and foremost, it says http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Death motor/Status&action=edit&newstatus=in in the address bar. Second, it does click the save button automatically. Third, I am using the new IE7 RC1 administered by Microsoft to all Windows XP users.

status changer

Hi, I have a question and a compliment. Compliment first: I love your userpage. I actually am using the code as the basis for my own page! I'm still working on it, so it still looks a bit like yours, but I wanted to say how great it is! Okay, question. I am using your status changer script. It works great, but I'd like to add on some more status options. How do I do that? I tried just going in and adding it to my monobook but it didn't seem to work. If you could help me out with that, I would greatly appreciate it! Laurənwhisper 18:39, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, I'm flattered. :-) I've put some great effort to make my userpage stylish and functional (which was eventually rewarded by Esperanza's UserPage Award) and am happy that you like it. As of the status switcher, this shouldn't be too hard. I see your template has an extra option already. All you need is add this to your monobook:
addlilink(contribs, linkprefix+user+subpage+"&action=edit&newstatus=sleepy", "Sleepy", "pt-status-sleepy", "I'm sleepy", "");
this goes inside the // STATUS CHANGER function, together with other lines beginning with "addlilink". Misza13 19:17, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza newsletter

Hey Misza, it's that time again!  :) When you get a chance, could you have MiszaBot spam out the Esperanza newsletter? Thank you so much for being able to take care of this. The newsletter can be found at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter, as well as User:Natalya/Draft. The title of the post can simply be "September Esperanza Newsletter". And for everyone who is on the newsletter Opt Out list, if they could just get spammed with "For your reading pleasure, the new Esperanza newsletter can be found at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter." or something similar, that would be awesome. Hi. I was just wondering which version of the Esperanza newsletter you sent out...? It may be just me getting confused though. Thanks :) — FireFox (talk) 19:24, 20 September 2006

Status changer bug..

Hi - it may not be a bug in the status changer, but more likely in IE7 (in Vista), which means that it doesn't work (replaces "in" or whatever with nothing (same as problem above)). You probably already knew, but I thought I'd say anyways :) Martinp23 19:57, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, I just started to figure this has something to do with the evil M$ product. Having no copy of it, I can't work out the problem otherwise than make up a wholly different solution, keeping in mind that regular expressions in IE JavaScript are screwed. :-/ Misza13 20:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter

I placed myself in the Opt-out list, and still got the newsletter, ? —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  21:35, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Simple reason - on the members' list, you are still listed as CliffHarris. There is no CliffHarris on the opt-out list, so CliffHarris was marked as "to be spammed with full version". Then the bot simply got redirected to User talk:Springeragh. To work this out, I suggest that you update your entry on WP:ESP/M and note CliffHarris as being your former account instead of the other way round as it is now. Cheers, Misza13 17:05, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Bot to notify about userboxes & category wp by language

Hi,

The oldest page on the merge list, I believe, is Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by language, mainly because it would be a brace of bears to merge it with Category:Wikipedians by language. The former seems to require Wikipedians to manually enter their names according to language/proficiency; the latter is autogenerated by placing a relevant language userbox on one's user page.

The first page really needs to be deleted, since merger to an automated page is impossible. It has not yet even been AfD'd, tho.

Is there a bot that would:

  1. Read the usernames on the page Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by language.
  2. Look on the associated user page for any language template userboxes. If they know of the existence of one, they know of them all, so no need to cross-verify whether the box they have is the language they manually listed on the above page.
  3. If has a language userbox, skip this user.
  4. If no language userbox, then pop a tiny little message on the user's talk page saying, hey, we're gonna delete Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by language, you can get a language userbox, and get listed automagically on Category:Wikipedians by language.
  5. Be sure not to put multiple messages on the same user's talk page. Some people are listed multiple times on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by language.

If the bot worked, then we could AfD Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by language.

Thanks --Ling.Nut 06:08, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

As fas as I know, no such bot exists as of now. I guess I could develop one, but then I'm pretty low on free time lately. I'll give it a thought this weekend though. :) Cheers, Misza13 17:16, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I have been blocked and it is not me. My user name is Wahiba and I have had nothing to do with an article "I am a negro".

There is a fault in the system that needs sorting.

The fact that they don't say anything about copyright doesn't equal a lack of it. WP:UW

Hi Misza,

I see looking at the WikiProject user warnings page, that you have recently become a participant in this project. To bring you up to speed, I have recently started an undertaking to harmonise all user page warnings and templates. For this I would like your assistance. I have listed a number of ideas on the project template page here as a first draft. I fully appreciate that as with most editors and admins, that you are fairly busy. Therefore I am not looking for anyone to carry out the actual work, I am willing to do that myself, with help from a number of other RC Patrollers who have come forward. But what I am looking for is your invaluable input, on the draft ideas and also to suggest other ways you believe we may improve the templates. I do however require the services of a couple of administrators to put into effect some of the new templates, as they are currently protected. Please take 5 mins to look through the new templates page, and both the project and templates talk pages and leave any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 10:56, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Esperenza newsletter

I didn't notice anywhere else to post this and since your the owner of the bot I thought it best to post here. Anyway I noticed your bot is posting to this userpage User talk:Carbine. The user has been indefinitely blocked so I'm not sure whether that's necessary or a good idea (although I don't have strong feelings either way) Nil Einne 22:09, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

If Carbine got the newsletter, it means he was listed on WP:ESP/M under active/semi-active members. Since he's not there now, I figure he was removed since the spamming. All that it takes is just keeping the member list up-to-date. Cheers, Misza13 17:49, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Newsletter spammage

Hey Misza, I hope all is well. When you get a chance, could you have MiszaBot spam out the Esperanza newsletter? It's been updated to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter, and the title of the post can be "November Esperanza Newsletter". And for those listed at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List, they just need a link to it (The November Esperanza Newsletter has been updated! Read all about it at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter), or something along those lines. Many thanks, it's much appreciated that you can do this. -- Natalya 19:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Done. Not without trouble (see global notice - someone changed the header titles on WP:ESP/M), but no serious blunders this time it seems. :) Cheers, Misza13 21:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
That's odd, thanks for pointing out he change. And thanks for getting it done so quickly! I wish there was a better way to thank you than by just saying "thanks", but I hope you catch the drift. :) -- Natalya 03:29, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm very curious about that. But, Please respond in my talk pages. Best Regard. Daniel5127 (Talk) 20:44, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza newsletter

Hi Misza. I was just wondering why whenever the Esperanza Newsletter is sent out, why don't you just send it out in template format instead of sending people out the confusing codes on thier talk page. And instead erasing the past newsletter from Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter, why not archive it on a sub-page for later viewing if nessecary? semper fiMoe 01:37, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I believe the Newsletter issues have been extensively discussed on WT:ESP in the past and this form was adopted. You're however welcome to propose new ideas there (rather than here - I merely execute the Council's will). Misza13 18:31, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, such strange things seem to happen when reverting moves and being an administrator - the interface automatically proposes the target's deletion and error may result in deletion of the wrong page. I see that someone fixed that however. Misza13 18:33, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

You deleted {{Template:Sarcasm}}, which is your prerogative, but unfortunately I created it for a reason after being accused of bad faith. I do not plan to create on my userpages (I see that as trying to get around a delete) but I fail to see why you claim it is divisive or was created to make a point, and I fail to see why you could not have informed me of your action. --Elaragirl ||||||Talk|Count 01:23, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

The Vandalism Box

How did you do that? Are you a programmer or something? Bearly541 05:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I am a "programmer or something". :) But it was actually Gurch's idea to put that on a userpage - the whole "trick" is {{Special:Recentchanges/1}} (you may substitute "1" for another number to display more items) and the colorful boxes are just some formatting stuff. You can see the full code at User:Misza13/Global Header. Misza13 09:43, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Cool. I always wanted to program a bot. Named Bearly541's bot, "or something." :-) Is it mainly C++? Bearly541 10:47, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
It's not a bot. You just put the code on you userpage/wherever and it shows just like that. It's just some WikiSyntax. Misza13 12:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

User talk:PleaseBlockMeNow

Err - he spammed everyone asking to be blocked. That username has no non-vandalistic contributions. Why have you unblocked? Secretlondon 19:04, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

For the very same reason he has requested the unblock. To request changing his username. If he follows the path of disruption, any admin has the full authority to reblock and deny any further requests. Misza13 19:09, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
But he can just make a new username - going through the change username procedure for an account with 10 edits, all vandalism, is a waste of a a bureaucrats time. As a bureaucrat I wouldn't touch it, sorry. Secretlondon 19:13, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
If you look at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats one of our criteria is "has no history of abuse". We don't rename vandals. Secretlondon 19:17, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I understand, but what is the purpose of the {{unblock-un}} template at all, then? Misza13 19:17, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Can you please take a look at Special:Contributions/GiorgioOrsini and this article's history.

Re: List of Croatians

Thanks for your kind note. If you thinks so - there will be no solution. I provided the facts confirming that a number of names of prominent Italians is 'translated' into Croatian and listed there. That way the integrity and credibility of Wikipedia is gravely undermined. I'll stop what you called 'edit war' and advise you to get valid information about people listed there. Moreover, the French actress Brigitte Bardot is listed as a Croatian. It is laughable to read that article. This time you are actually helping these 'editors' whose 'expertise' is to 'naturalize' foreign names.--GiorgioOrsini 02:13, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

strange comments...

Hey there,

I noticed you protected User talk:M4URIZ. Before doing so the banned user has entered several comments on me. I have never had any issue with the user, if he is right on not being a suckpuppet. Could I kindly ask you to remove these comments - or maybe delete the entire page of the banned user. Bertilvidet 09:22, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I didn't see the comments as offensive in any way, but I figure you find them uneasy... So, I have practically blanked the page and added it to CAT:TEMP, which means the record will be deleted after a reasonable amount of time. Misza13 10:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. No, the comments were not offensive as such. But I find it disturbing that a user bothers to find out personal information about me and post it on their talk page - especially when it seems to be a suckpuppet of a user who has a long history of engaging in rude and obscene personal attacks. User talk page deletion

Why did you delete Tsutsu's user talk page? A user talk page not being edited for a month is no reason to remove someone's talk page. What does "Temporary Wikipedian" mean? Why do you think he is only a Temporary Wikipedian? Angela. 09:33, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Please see CAT:TEMP. It is a category filled mostly with usernames that violate WP:USERNAME and are blocked indefinitely - templates such as {{UsernameBlocked}} and {{indefblockeduser}} automatically put pages in this category. Such pages are not of any use to Wikipedia. Also, as far as I know, such pages are also indexed by Google (which is bad, I think - we wouldn't want such pages to turn up in searches) and deleting them prevents the search engine from doing so. Oh, and it's not "pages belonging to temporary Wikipedians", but rather "Wikipedians' temporary pages". Misza13 13:01, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

If so please visit the overview page and choose a warning type you wish to work on. There is a base template available here, which you can copy and use to get you started. Annie Mae Leonard Mitcham

A topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of the subject itself.

Annie Mae Mitcham is very well known Throughout Central GA as an educator for the under privileged. She has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of her which qualifies for inclusion according to the rules.

There are several entries in this media that are far less notable and news worthy than this subject.

I upgraded to IEv7. Maybe that's the problem...Is your script reliant to the web browser being used?--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 01:50, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

There's this piece of code:

 statusRegExp = /&action=edit&newstatus=(.*)/;
 status = statusRegExp.exec(location.href)[1];

- some regular expressions that parse the address & extract the new status being set. It works fine in Mozilla-based browsers, but for as long as I can remember there were problems with JS regular expressions in IE and I haven't figured a workaround yet. Миша13 08:19, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

John Bryan Robinson

I unblocked John Bryan Robinson (talk · contribs). You blocked this account today apparently because of a violation of the username policy but this violation was not clear to me. Given the speed with which the account was blocked, I believe you may have slipped and hit the wrong button or something. I've done this plenty of times. Anyway, please feel free to reblock if the block was actually legitimate. It is not my intention to engage in a wheel war with you. --Yamla 20:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

No slipped button there. You may not be familiar, but "John <<second name>> Robinson" is a pattern followed by a certain vandal, whose modus operandi (now that such usernames get blocked on sight) is to abuse the {{unblock}} template on his talk page (investigate User_talk:John_Parry_Robinson, User_talk:John_Arwel_Robinson and User talk:John David Robinson for the few of some 20 by now examples), claiming he's User:Hephaestos and other nonsense. I didn't go into lengths investigating the user's earlier "crimes", but such usernames are now blocked immediately, pending verification (or talkpage salting in case of a recurring pattern). Миша13 20:59, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
As a side note, this unblock request doesn't seem like one written by a newbie. But since it doesn't follow the usual pattern ;-), let's leave it be (my bet being - he abandons the username now anyway), but don't be surpised if the accounts starts vandalising all of a sudden. :-D Миша13 21:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Much appreciated. --Yamla 18:11, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Anthony J. Gentile

Hey -- you speedy deleted this while I was in the process of declining the speedy request. I think the notability of the person is clearly explained -- a teacher's union rep convicted on Child porn charges, with published sources backing it up (it arguably even meets WP:BIO, let alone the bare "claim of significance" needed for CSD A7. I was going to take it to AfD, because I feel that having an article like this that can only be negative about its subject needs a very good rationale, and some borderline notable case like this should be deleted per WP:BLP concerns, but I know that's a somewhat controversial stand. Anyway, if you still feel deleting it with no further debate is okay, I won't complain, but I think it might be better to debate the issue. Mangojuicetalk 18:21, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but I hardly find a mere fact of being convicted a "claim of significance". Also, neither of the "source" links seem to me as "media coverage", but if you contest the speedy deletion, let's see what discussion it generates. Feel free to nominate. Миша13 18:30, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I notice you were able to quickly restore BigDTs talk page minus the abusive edit summary. Is there a faster way to do this than what I was trying to do - which was manually clicking all 270 checkboxes individually. Thanks. -- No Guru 18:54, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there is at least one super-speedy way. There is a lot of nice code to be found on User:Voice of All/UsefulJS - among others the "Admin only JS", which, again among others, adds a tab named "Select all" when browsing deleted history of a page. Needless to say, it ticks all boxes with just one click. :-) Миша13 19:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

His userpage and edit is against good faith, he express his racism and being neo-nazi. These users are not blocked ? ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 19:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Comment Extreme attacks, in particular legal threats and death threats, can be dealt with by blocking the offending user without warning. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 19:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Since except the one edit to Ice Cube I haven't found any other disruptive edits, I'll leave the user be for now, especially when seems to be contributing to the encyclopedia. If his userpage bothers you (I'm close to neutral on it), you may ask him directly to change/soften it. Just let me know if he picks up the line of hate & vandalism in articles or towards others; then I'll react accordingly. You may also ask other administrators for an opinion on WP:AN. Миша13 19:46, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for removing that edit. --BigDT 19:04, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. It was actually No Guru, who deleted your page and me who restored all revs except the bad one (and the rv). Миша13 19:10, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

CAT:CSD backlog

I think the reason the backlog tag was restored wasn't because of the one image that remained, but because of the categories of images that remained (i.e. images with no copyright, images with no fair use rationale, etc.). I assume that's why Zsinj (talk · contribs) readded the tag. Metros232 20:28, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

In that case, I figure you can add {{adminbacklog}} to one of the backlogged subcategories - this will make it appear on CAT:ABL. No reason to list a parent category there, IMO. Миша13 20:39, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

re: cookies for destruction

Thanks for the cookies! I am sure there were other admins working on the backlog at the same time, too. :) --Fang Aili talk 20:46, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Merry Christmas to you too! And a happy solstice! --Fang Aili talk 21:22, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Ooh, you're deleting old userpages again.

Thanks! – Gurch 23:25, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, but I'm at the same time in the progress of redesigning the whole process. I have, for example, noticed I'm sometimes deleting a user page and leaving the corresponding talk (or vice versa) because the're not categorized. For start, on this run, I'm logging whenever the "mirror" page existed (will have a semi-manual run through them later on). In future, I'm planning on sucking the entire CAT:TEMP (pages with contents and timestamps) into a mysql db, running some analysis on them and then proceeding to the proper deletion run. Миша13 23:30, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Cool... hope it works! – Gurch 13:08, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm...

I thought you weren't meant to judge people by their edit count... ;). I can see the sense in what you're saying, but I remember being welcomed when I first signed up, before I'd even edited. It gave me the confidence I needed to start doing things, and an opening for finding out how to both use and edit Wikipedia, when the Help portal was much harder to understand. —Vanderdeckenξφ 17:39, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

All those sleeper accounts. So why did WP:DUU90 fail if so many people hate unused user accounts? —Vanderdeckenξφ 17:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
It didn't. The vote passed by 255 to 18, but the MediaWiki developers refuse to implement it, because they hate us – Gurch 23:20, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Userpage Code

How did you get it to work backwards? Clever... Fredil 17:33, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

A bit of magic and a well-placed special unicode 202E character. Миша13 17:35, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Wow, if that doesn't discourage vandalism I don't know what does. Very smart of you. How'd you come up with it? Fredil 15:39, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
It certainly won't discourage on simple type of vandalism: WTF IN HELL? OH NVM, JUST BLANK THE WHOLE DAMN THING! And I found it out on some technical discussion related to usernames containing this character. They cannot be created anymore, but apparently cannot be blocked either. o.O This means problems in cases of usernames that are reversed usernames of established users, i.e. selaW obmiJ becomes (or at least looks like) Jimbo Wales if the character is prepended to it, although it's an entirely different user. Миша13 20:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

sigh...

Shame he couldn't just let things quiet down. ---J.S (T/C) 19:53, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Question

What can I do to make Annie Mae Leonard Mitcham's entry acceptable for this site? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mitchamz (talkcontribs) 22:13, 28 December 2006.

Discussion on WP:HD

Hi Misza, I just started this discussion on WP:HD - I noticed something very strange in my editbox display when having a look at your user page in edit mode (I didn't actually edit anything, just wanted to see what code/template you used for the "evaluate this edit" section). Hope you don't mind me using your userpage as an example for that discussion :P -- Ferkelparade π 15:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Just a geeky joke on my side & I'm glad to see you fell for it. :-D Technical explanation on WP:HD. And the core of the "vandalism box" is pretty simple, really: {{Special:Recentchanges/1}} (change 1 to more for more edits), plus some <div>s to hide the headers that Special:Recentchanges is producing by default. Миша13 16:12, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Ah... I guess IHBT. IHL. I will HAND ;) -- Ferkelparade π 16:37, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
