[edit] Courtney Love

Hey, I respect your opinion, and I do see what you're getting at....

She has been in so much hot water, though, that the events really needed to be outlined. I'm a big believer in trying to group things both (a) by subject and (b) chronologically. I'm going to try to make a change to the "general controversies" to soften it up a bit. But in the big scheme of things the article needs to be informative, and we can't worry about seeming "humorless".

You're not the first person who has told me they don't like the categories or subcategories. I kinda feel the same way about an article that has too little of it! Thanks. NickBurns 21:49, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Again, I disagree with putting it all together, rather than by subject or by subcategory. If you see fit to make a change, by all means do it. NickBurns 06:41, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kristen Pfaff

Hey, can you get snuffling in the Everett True book for goodies on Kristen? I started by expanding Janitor Joe to pacify the Minneapolites but the LTT part of her Musical Career section should be great. I refuse to let such a wonderful bassist and performer, who led such a quiet life, be written about primarily biographically. Searching around on the net, almost alll the Kristen sites (including the fucking MYSPACE page on JJ and the Kristen group on there too) quote the original, farcical version of the wiki page, with the 'conspiracy theory' section trimmed off if anyone had any shame.

It was actually really useful to get the gen on JJ because now I think I can see what hooked Clover so fast - JJ's lineage is grunge and post hardcore, with nods to hammer/anvil stuff like the Fall and Shellac. Listen, there's an MP3 here.

[edit] Fair-use question

You asked: "Hi Yamla, I was wondering if I could ask you about the new rules regarding images... I've read some of the pages regarding fair use, but I don't quite get it--what's up now sounds really flexible to me, and doesn't make sense. Is it legal to use screen captures from video? Is it legal to use an image that was used in promotion, i.e. an image used on a promotional poster for a record that was displayed in record stores? Thanks in advance for any tips!"

I am assuming you are asking in the context of finding an image to depict a living person. In this case, you can check WP:FUC for the details, but in summary, you may only use free images. So, an image you have taken and released under a free license. One from the person's agent if and only if it has been released under a free image. Something from flickr but again, only if under a free license. We have never been permitted to use film screenshots solely to depict a person, though these may be acceptable to provide critical commentary on the film. A promotional movie poster may be used to illustrate the movie or to provide critical commentary on the poster itself, but not solely to depict a person. Similarly, an album cover may be used solely to illustrate the album. In all cases, copyrighted images require detailed hand-written fair-use rationales. In summary, if you are looking for an image to depict a living person, it must be a free image. Essentially (though not exactly), this means that regular copyrighted images are right out. This is a new change, though, so many of the images on the Wikipedia are in violation at the moment. --Yamla 04:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Guillemots band.jpg

Hello, Mistertruffles. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Guillemots band.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Mistertruffles. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. [edit] Criticisms in lede

Hi, you are correct that the lede should not overly spell out criticisms but simply note they exist in context. However, the solution is not to delete sourced content but to move it to avoid WP:UNDUE weight on a BLP. Benjiboi 03:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
