[edit] Neutrality and Correctiveness?

"The world's first and only band of its kind to date, they seamlessly fuse music, graphic art, literature, photography and other art forms", what about virtual bands like Gorillaz?, "seamlessly fusing music, graphic art, literature" etc. not only being not neutral, it is not a new concept either, the first thing that came into mind is Wegner's idea of Gesamtkunstwerk ("total artwork"). I recommand delete that sentence all together. --Zephirum 09:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

As a long-time follower and believer of the band's ideals, I believe the sentence is VALID and SHOULD HOLD. This is because although many groups do fuse music, graphic art, etc. and the idea is not entirely new (as mentioned above, re:Wegner's idea) only Mistula, so far, is able to coherently show the direct, single-minded relationship between every detail of their body of artworks and the very reason of their existence, WHY they are what they are in the first place. Meaning: the members are dolls; therefore they are similar to Church idols; therefore they can be figures of worship; therefore they are like a rock band; therefore they are like idols; therefore the name "Mistula" (it's a Filipino term which means "like" or "similar to" or simply,"virtual"); therefore, artworks which deal with idolatry and idol worship in the Philippine context. The idea and the thought process involved is so single-minded, it is, to the very essence of the word, truly "SEAMLESS". --Noypinoy 15:03, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

You have to take the sentence in its proper context, Zephirum. It states: "The world's first and only band of its kind to date, they (Mistula) seamlessly fuse music, graphic art, literature, photography and other art forms". The phrase "band of its kind" pertains to their medium, which is puppetry. After some research, I believe they are the only band utilizing puppetry as a medium to fuse music and other art forms into their expression so in that light, the claim holds true.

The Wikipedia article Virtual band explains the difference between Mistula and the Gorillaz.

Your argument on total artwork is out of context. Mistula does not claim to be the first to think of it. They are only saying they are the first band to apply one focused idea through all of their media, which according to my research, is also true. I recommend the article be kept as is.--Chewpacabra 09:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

This article does not falsely claim that they were the first to actually put multiple art forms together. I think that the phrases "the first and only band of its kind" and "they seamlessly fuse music, graphic art, literature, photography and other art forms" were taken out of context because you failed to look at the sentence as a whole. "The world's first and only band of its kind to date, they seamlessly fuse music, graphic art, literature, photography and other art forms, built around themes of Catholic idolatry and cultural commentary." The unique combination of all the art forms that they utilized, the fact that they use dolls as their medium (as compared to other virtual bands that use animated/cartoon characters), AND their focus on "Catholic idolatry and cultural commentary" is what makes Mistula "the first and only band of its kind." -- Silentaria 23:37, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources

So I'm okay with the band surviving the AfD. Now, can we please get more sources other than from its own web site? Almost all of the sources cited are various pages from its own website, and POV wise, this is a concern. --- Tito Pao 03:49, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
