[edit] Requested move
Reason for request: "delta (delta)" doesn't make much sense; the majority of google hits for "Mississippi River Delta" discuss the triangular landform; other river deltas are named "X River Delta"; there were preexisting links pointing to the new name, most of which meant the triangular landform. The reason an automatic rename couldn't be performed is that the new page originally redirected to Mississippi Delta, but that page has since been disambiguated into this one for the reasons stated above. --Interiot 20:33, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion
Mississippi River Delta is not 100% disambiguated... some people use it as a synonym for what the Mississippi Delta is (eg. Memphis and Arkansas near the Mississippi River) since the Mississippi River and the Mississippi Delta (memphis/arkansas) overlap, and the confluence of the two phrases becomes "Mississippi River Delta". However, it's still the clearest (sensible) name I could find that is usually used to mean the river delta region. --Interiot 20:33, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
- I suggest (some of this is in place already):
- Mississippi River Delta → The geographic aluvial delta at the south of Louisiana, with disambiguation link to Mississippi Delta (cultural).
- Mississippi Delta → Redirect to Mississippi River Delta.
- Mississippi Delta (cultural) → Cultural area from the Gulf to Memphis.
- Mississippi Embayment → As is, but capitalized; it's a named geographic feature, and it's capitalized here.
- Mississippi Valley → Redirect deleted unless it can be show that it is indeed used to refer to the embayment region. Unless a whole other article on the whole valley from Gulf to Minnesota is justified. Methinks the Mississippi River article suffices in that regard.

- I'm pretty sure the cultural area (between the mississippi river and the yazoo) is the biggest use of the term "The Delta" in the south, and so should be the default. 'Delta' is a precisely-defined technical term, which is nice, but I don't think that's the way it's most commonly used? --Interiot 18:05, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

- If you say so. If I remain sceptical it's because I'm more into geology than blues. I'd go for Mississippi Delta being the cultural article, leading with a dab link to Mississippi River Delta. -- Kbh3rd 18:15, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

- I've no idea really. Well, okay, here are some google statistics:
- delta mississippi, 2,400,000 hits
- delta mississippi memphis, 1,900,000 hits
- delta mississippi memphis OR illinois OR vicksburg, 3,260,000 hits
- delta mississippi memphis OR illinois OR vicksburg OR blues OR music, 4,110,000 hits
- delta mississippi -memphis -vicksburg, 4,420,000 hits (???)
- delta mississippi -memphis -illinois -vicksburg -blues -music, 1,590,000 hits
- delta mississippi deposits OR alluvium OR mouth OR bayou OR "river delta", 1,240,000 hits
- Okay, those numbers are pretty unreliable, but I think you might be able to infer that Delta(cultural) wins out over Delta(alluvial). --Interiot 23:51, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Atchafalaya River mouth northwest of New Orleans?
I don't want to edit this article without being sure, but isn't the Atchafalaya River mouth roughly 60 miles Southwest, or at least West-Southwest of New Orleans, and not northwest, as the article states? Thanks.
- I think they meant to discuss where the Atchafalaya River branches off from the Mississippi River, not Atchafalaya's mouth. Updated to reflect that. -20:17, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
