I removed the phrase "The name "Mishakal" may be an angram of "Lakshmi", who is the Hindu Goddess of prosperity" because it seems like original research. DoomsDay349 19:48, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

IIRC, the Annotated Legends had an appendix, written by Jeff Grubb, detailing the origins of all the gods' names, and Mishakal was derived from a biblical story - Shadrack, Mishak, and Abednego and the firey furnace. Schoop (talk) 20:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Takhisis

Isn't this article being a little bit inconsistant? It says she opposes Takhisis just after mentioning that Paladine has been made a mortal. Takhisis is killed just after Paladine steps down from being a god so Mishakal can't really be opposing her. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Holywhippet (talk • contribs) 02:56, 5 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Argument for merge

Is there any objection to merging Mishakal into the List of Dragonlance deities#Mishakal? Although I understand that Mishakal does play a significant role in the Dragonlance Chronicles, as the patron deity of Goldmoon, and her tie to the Disks, but she doesn't seem to play an active role in the novels, nor a major role in the dragonlance Campaign setting, where her only major mention is that her clerics often inhabit temples to Paladine. I'm unfamiliar with her role in the War of Souls, but apparently she takes unofficial leadership of the good deities after Paladine resigns? Does she ever become a major figure within Dragonlance, and if not, let's merge this article rather than face a probable AfD for non-notability. Dalamori (talk) 15:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. Mishakal's involvement in the Chronicles makes her a major figure in the Dragonlance continuity. Schoop (talk) 20:12, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Admittedly, it's been a while since I've read the chronicles, but to my recollection, most of Mishakal's involvement in the books was through Goldmoon as her intercessory, and while Goldmoon is very important to the story, Mishakal herself has very little direct presence. Even the Disks of Mishakal seem to play a larger role in the story than the goddess whose name they bear does. Although I would welcome a chance to save this article from merge, we're going to need some hard facts to back us up. Can you help? Dalamori (talk) 07:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Just noticed this; the references amount to nothing, so there is nothing establishing any notability. I endorse the idea of merging this (or just going with the coverage extant there). All of the deities should be covered in the list and if solid sourcing emerges then you have a case for spinning this out into an independent article. Cheers, Jack Merridew 08:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Welcome to the Mishakal discussion, Jack. I'm content to wait at least a little while and see if anyone can provide any evidence of notability. I'll be searching in the meantime, as well.
